My safety girl did a poll of the drivers last year to see what they wanted us to change and what they look for in a company.
The #1 reason what they look for is RESPECT. THIS MEANS THEY ARE TREATED AS PROFESSIONALS AND NOT MICRO-MANAGED.
#2 is to have a staff that backs them when there are problems. This also includes having the staff be held accountable for things they cause.
#3 is to have control of what they haul and when they haul it and where they want to haul it to.
#4 is to have transparent accounting for each load they take or any task they do for the customer.
#5 is to have the staff listen to them when they say something, respect it as a professional and when they ask a question they get an answer.
and so on.
money is at #8, as many said you could pay them a million dollars a load but without those first five, it isn't worth it.UturnGirl, D.Tibbitt, kylefitzy and 1 other person Thank this. -

Keep me busy enough to make money, but not so busy I'm exhausted all the time. Don't mess with my home time, get me home when I want for as long as I want. Decent equipment, I'm going to be loving out of the truck, I want to be comfortable and not broke down all the time. Compensated for my time, decent mileage pay with accessorial pay(detention, breakdown, etc). Minimal contact with dispatch, basically unless there's an issue, I don't want to hear from them, and they won't hear from me. Could break it down more, but basically encompasses anything I consider important, at least right now.
