I had to think to myself earlier when I saw the comment of someone who didn’t want to give up a percentage to a carrier. My long time friend and former co-worker who is a “well connected” 35 year seasoned, non load board freight hauling, Landstar Owner Op who owns his own open deck trailer, told me yesterday that he is hauling a 6,000lb non oversized crate to Az for $10,000 on 1700 miles. His regular agent has 2 loads a week for the forceable future of which he gets first opportunity, if he is in the correct position to service the customer. He also has paid his dues to get these loads, but they are still out there to those who know what it takes to get them, in what some would consider the worst of recent times in trucking.

No way I would want to work all the time. This is my main reason for being an Owner Op.

Average load board rate is now under a $2, after the huge cut the brokers are taking. Everyone knows the rates are shot, but carriers are not going to admit it to owner operators wanting to sign on. That and fuel is almost $6 and will go to $7. You tell me this is not all "part of the plan", and it is just natural market forces.
