I was at a warehouse, going to pull and breakdown 8 skids myself. was told If it wasn't done in 2 hrs it was going back on the truck, cause I didn't hire a lumper. I laughed and said yeah, who's gonna put it back on ? dude said I will.I Pulled the skids and padlocked the trailer. BTW this is the same sh(*&thole I was kicked off the dock after getting into a pissing contest with a lumper

most of those places require the actual pallets to be in PERFECT condition and charge to restack onto perfect pallets if yours arent perfect. But $100 sounds ridiculous for two pallets in any case...

The worst I had was "DRIVER ASSIST" I was duped by my #$^%$##^% driver manager. His last words to me were do me a "FAVOR" and run this trailor 4 miles down the road and pick up an empty. This was after being down in the terminal with a cracked EGR for a day. Spent the entire day unloading batteries, then the company short changes by half of what I am supposed to get paid for the day. I am sure that went in the DM's pocket.

I'd have been on the phone with someone over his head and down the road if it wasn't fixed. I work, they pay, period.

They have to move cows around if 1 slips an goes down so there is enough room for the 1 to get up. Yes there are packed tight, other wise they would all be falling down. I don't know any bull hauler that would abuse any animal . Most I know would knock out any one they caught doing that.If you witnessed that, WHY didn't YOU step up then when YOU could have stoped it, as apposed to whining now about it. All Americans have a duty, to stand against the evil we see every day, that's what made us Americans. Turning you back on things has never fixed anything, sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up an get a little dirty yourself ! I'm not being disrespectful I'm just saying. thank you Rick

I had no cust tell us that it was the driver job to haggle over lumpers fees, which I told him, no driver job is to drive, and to be at appointed place, at appointed time, with load intact. Cust wanted my drivers to haggle like a jewish princess brokering a deal for her virginity. I told him that if he wanted lower lumpers, that I would be happy for the drivers to get the lumper numbers and call you and have you get the fee you want, even at 0100 on monday morning at a AWG, or at 2300 at a CS.

He said AAWWw No, im sure it be ok. what a piss ant. He still ####### every time i add a lumper fee, of course.

Broomsticks won't work. They break easily. Most cattlemen use a hickory "show stick". Straight, longer than a walking stick, and tapered from top to end. Some have a small nail driven cross ways near the end with the point just barely sticking out. This is used to gently rub/tickle the belly of the animal while holding its head up a little in the show ring. Makes it display better to the judges. You could run your hand down the stick and
barely feel the point and no injury. You don't beat/hit the animal with these sticks. You reach out to their heads on one side or the other to steer them in thru the loading gate while whooping it up behind. If you
"stab" one, you better be out of foot range. You stab/poke one they will
    kick out, high and hard.

You can't beat cattle in an enclosed trailer. You would have to get in there with them and a 1200 lb steer stepping on your foot is rough. You can't reach thru the side slats (wood frame) or holes (aluminum trailer) and beat down. Their feet are 4 feet off the ground, their backs 4+ above that, so you would have to be a pro basketball player to reach, then raise the stick high enough to strike down. Then there is the top of the trailer up there to hinder your stroke.

They are penned up as tight as reasonably allowed. Say you have 30 big steers. Or 30 big Holstein dairy cows. A 34 foot trailer. You run in 15 (one half), swing in a movable gate, tie it off. Drive in the others and insert the back inner gate. If a lesser number, use another gate to them up.
Close the outer doors and ready to roll.
They are tight enough to stand side by side across the trailer. Stop and start they shift against each other to form a solid but movable mass. If so loose to get long ways they are scrambling when you start and stop.

As for "stabbing" you are probably referring to a man standing by the trailer, poking and wiggling a stick up thru the slats. Look for the box in his left hand and the wire running from it to the stick. Its a home made hot shot. 2 dry cells, model T Ford coil, door handle on top to carry by and a doorbell button to trigger. Shocks the animal that has slipped or gotten lazy and lay down. If stays down will be trampled. More humane to shock up and survive.

Without the beating and stabbing there is little bruising. More occurs in the pens where they tend to bully each other.

By the way. When the big Holsteins coming out of Waukesha, WI and headed to Miami, Fl start to have calves.... You have stopped to eat supper. Come back out, flash light the slats to see who lay down.Calf lying there, mama standing up OK. You say ARGH..., pull on coveralls, open the outer doors, climb over the inner gate, work your way up hanging on the side rails. Get down and pick up the calf, wiggle your way to the front(where you having experienced this before and put a cross gate at the nose) set the BIG baby over it into the safety of the rounded nose to gate area. Crawl back out and pat mama as you clamber by, get out, close up, strip the coveralls and lash to the fuel tanks to keep outside, wash up and drive the truck away.

Guys, this was not to knock anyones post or become an argument. Just a
little light on the subject from one who did this a long time and can count on one hand the number of animal DOA and still have fingers left.

Bull haulers are gentle people, their passengers require it?

Thanks for the back up. Some times I just got'a say something to these whiners that cry about every thing But do nothing about it. I'm sure that he likes all his freedom , but never really worked hard, like you & your Dad. I've learned one thing , Freedom is not free or easy and when you wait for someone else to do the right thing. you mite have a long wait. If everyone would take there blinders off & helped when they could. Or teach (ha ha ) when someone needs School'n . USA would be united again. My hats off to you & all before me for my freedoms, I will never take for granted, my DUTY to all after me. GOD Bless ps. been around cows/bulls my hole life nick name in high school was Barn Smell lol

Hey guys i know i am new here, but i have been in the middle.
Driver's and lumpers etc. Where i worked at we had two lumpers, they where ok guys.
But i was getting $12.00 a hour while one there was getting full disability!
That sonbitch drove a caddie and at times i saw him take 2k a week home.
Hell he would make the truckdriver Go get the comcheck cashed:biggrin_25510:
Then one day the other receiver and i thought hey other lumpers have to pay just to be on the dock(fee)
We where told by the manager not interfere cause it would make our lives easy cause they already knew the drill.
That was cool but i would catch them getting payed for bulk loads.
(bulk loads ) are product that goes or sells fast ,thus is a waste of time they never needed to be touched .
Cause we always pulled off the load.

Well i went on and found out more #### was going on ,the manager had the one lumper to get payed by the hour working damage, and sweeping while he was waiting on the loads to come!

He draws from the goverment,he gets paid waiting and all the sudden this guy had more power than we did.

My partner and i then saw all the good #### being give to the lumpers, yes the lowest of the low was now up higher at the food chain than the shipper/receivers where?????????????????

Well one good thing did happen ,we would drive right up to the drivers and tell them what was going on,that pissed them all off.
I mean what could anybody do about it,,,,,,,,,,nothing

My buddy and i started clocking out and do the trucks that the truck driver didnt want to do in the first place.
But we took what we knew it was worth, maybe not fixing the problem but sure felt good(lmao_)
