I voted full steam ahead but had to think about it awhile because a lot has changed. The spot market isn't any fun right now. For me the fun is in negotiating a good one now and then and hauling something interesting or going somewhere interesting from time to time. I'm too paranoid right now to run too far from the house. Keeping it close, keeping it boring, just riding it out.

It's full steam ahead but a lot has changed unfortunately.

Yeah that describes me more accurately with the company im leased to also , I'm definitely not wandering out of our established freight lanes now just because I get bored , some of our lanes involve 3 plp to get back home so I'm staying with lanes that we have contract freight in both ways that I know , outbound for me for me is always good and don't think that will change but I expect to see inbound go in the dumper anytime even on contract and have seen it before .
I only speak of what I see in the reefer market based in omaha so my scope is limited but I really think after the those that ran out and bought over priced equipment get squeezed out the spot market will adjust and return to reasonable rates .

They'll do better than the owners, or should I say borrowers?

Ran 2 loads last week. $3.40/mile no tarp 1300 miles and then found a load for $3.09 no tarp that got me half way home. Deadheaded the rest of the way for Thanksgiving. Picked up a load going to Billings, MT yesterday. I’ll head out on Saturday morning and deliver Monday morning. From there I’ll pickup 90 miles away head to Eastern PA.
That will give me 2700 miles in 5 days averaging $3.03/mile. Fuel has come down so I’m running between $.66 and $.75/mile depending on the area. I run the spot market and get everything through brokers.

Well the Billings load is the last one of a project and the other was on the load boards. As a matter of fact every load I take is on the boards for days. They can’t steal my dazzling personality or my ability to negotiate.
