I bought the car off of eBay a few years ago for $3800. The previous owner had replaced the original Stromberg(a.k.a. “Strangleberg”)with a single Weber side draft carburetor. The car was fun to drive-it kinda made me a celebrity of sorts at my former exalted place of work!lol

Those weren't nothing compared the Chrysler cross Rams that took eight vacuum gauges to do right!

At the family gathering for thanksgiving , I chatted with a family member that works for a county govt in Florida and their sheriffs dept leases the cop cars , for three year or 100,000 miles , whichever comes first .

maybe the revenue collection officers in the north east can get the three year old explorers from central Florida to replace their rusted out ones.

And take the risk of them being possible flood vehicles from a hurricane or other storm event?
    Leasing doesn’t work for everyone.

I doubt the sheriffs department is having cops driving around in flood damaged cars .

but a flood damaged car wouldn’t be any worse than the way the commenter were describing some of the rusted out cars .
That they were rusted so bad they were not safe to drive .

Most places ,if a flood is imminent, will withdraw the fire trucks and cop cars etc , so they don’t get damaged .
That’s usually how you know you better evacuate , when your friends at the fire department or sheriffs office tells you that they are withdrawing all
The fire trucks and ambulances to higher ground .

I think leasing is dumb , and can’t imagine why anyone would do it , but the person I talked to said they’ve tried owning them and leasing them and leasing them is easier and cheaper .
At the end of three years a new car shows up and they toss the keys to the old car to the leasing company , and don’t have to deal with storing the old cars and having an auction etc .

I’m not crazy about leasing either. You really have nothing to show for it at the end. Plus, restrictions on mileage and wear and tear are deal killers.

After reading this thread I've come to a couple conclusions while pondering this lack of police vehicles...

    1. "Deford the police!" was funny. I can't thank the post twice so, it gets a mention here.
    2. I like doughnuts.

But who’s going to work there?
Not many people here want a factory job

There have been billboards all over for the past several years with pretty decent starting pay jobs posted but still not enough help

Never mind….. I think they’ll find those who can just “walk” to work like they are walking to the US
