    Simple statement;
    My income with landstar dropped 50% in the last year. Landstar today is completely different than even a couple of years ago.
    Landstar is downsizing, which means they don't care about you because they want you to quit because they don't have nearly enough freight for the current drivers. Even if you have 35 years of experience. Most of the decent agents I've delt with for years aren't with landstar anymore, which forces you to deal with new agents all the time. Many of their employees still work from home, so be prepared to wait an hour or so on hold if your company trailer blows a recap. Look at the reviews right here on The Truckers Report; 2 stars out of 5.

    And over half of landstar agents have English as their second language. Most are from Russia, Ukraine, & other eastern block nations or have a very heavy spanish accent. I've had many horrifically messed-up loads where the foreign landstar agent didn't understand critical stuff from the customer, like that the receiver will be closed for the next two weeks (auto plants do this all the time), or that they needed to make an appointment with the receiver at a large DC and when you show up, the receiver has no open appointments for a week. Many big DCs are like this bc they're primarily drop & hook. Imagine if you own the trailer. Even if you pull a landstar trailer, they won't get you another landstar trailer for almost as long if your live-unload just turned into a drop trailer where landstar doesn't have any empties. Your income just went to zero for a week 1000 miles from the house. Sure, you blacklist that agent, but landstar let's the same agents call themselves by a different agency name next time. Most landstar "agents" are one person with a cell phone at the house.
    More importantly, a landstar agent can send you a confirmation clearly stating they will pay you X amount of money. You deliver the load only to have landstar HQ claw-back a significant amount of that confirmed amount months later bc "the agent promised money he shouldn't have."(i.e., loading, unloading,extra FSC,tolls,driver-assist, etc.). And I'm talking about $500-$1000 deducted right out of the written linehaul confirmation months after a perfect delivery. Also far too many TONUs. You show up at the shipper but the load is already gone. Agent confirmations mean nothing to landstar HQ

    They have a very long onboarding process, takes months, I have applied a couple times in the past. Not looking for Trucking long term anymore and forgot about them, but they even ask for licenses that you had ten yrs ago in a different state. Long Process.

    However that doesn’t explain why LS is still hiring. Couple weeks ago saw a whole group of newly oriented drivers waiting. They are still hiring, but to say they don’t care about drivers is probably correct. It costs them nothing to lose drivers but they always want to maintain a certain number to keep the balance, meanwhile letting drivers duke it out for themselves out there. And let’s not forget those crappy trailers out there that just seem to be getting worse in the years. They want us to babysit them and repair them ourselves-saving money at the expense of the driver is the name of the game!
