Pulled the plate on clutch a month ago and looked good and clean with minimal “red dust” Took it in for pm and had them adjust it.
Just pulled the cover to find the clutch to be turning orange ?
Clutch has orange rusty color coating it ? 2018 Peterbilt 9 speed

Thats surface rust, its gotten water (or extremely high humidity) on it and since thats not a panted part nor a wear surface, thats there forever now.

I’m hoping to get a new trans and clutch next year. And I guess it will have to be painted when I do!Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
The rust on the bare cast will not hurt anything. The cast parts have a light oil coating that will burn off with time. Think of it like a cast brake rotor or drum that can rust on the unused surfaces. Paint it if you must, but it would be for appearance only and you won’t be able to even see it. I would more fear that the paint may affect the performance of the clutch if you get any on the friction surfaces.
