Hey now, I liked my subaru, was a very capable vehicle. It was the only vehicle that made it in to work before i plowed, another guy managed to start up the driveway with his jeep, but got stuck 10 foot in.

In fairness, yes i know the kind of people you mean. Btw, I try to do as little outdoorsy stuff as possible, but I DO know how to drive in all kinds of weather

Though i am sadly sans subaru now, early days of covid, some kids grabbed it and joyrode it around our drop-yard and slammed it into a 6 inch gate post, trashed the gate, the frame of the car, battery acid poured into the engine i had just rebuilt...

My daily driver is a 4wd Ford Expedition but I rarely use the 4wd. I hate those people who just lock it in 4 wheel and hammer down. I was driving in town today and had one of those jacked up beefy-tire lifted up toyota tacoma type knuckleheads (the worst kind of 4x4 idiots in my opinion) come racing up behind me all impatient. Came up to a roundabout, I saw the road right before the roundabout was covered in packed ice so I started feathering the brakes way early, turned the wheel as little as possible, and then eased on the throttle at just the right time and I made it right through with only a slight skid. The idiot behind me plowed right into the shoulder and got stuck. LOL.

(I did go back the same way to make sure he got out and he did).

Some of you never drifted a pick up truck, around farm&fleet parking lot on black ice while smoking a joint and it shows

Here we go again,,,sadly, 4 people won't have any holidays, and the families will be devastated and for what? It's obviously past the moron stage, as good people get caught up in this, and never know why. All this shows, year after year, how disconnected drivers are to changing conditions. In my best Bing Crosby voice,,"Who's to blame? We know his name",,,it simply bamboozles me, cars get safer, roads get safer, and something as devastating as the cell phone and distracted driving is introduced and blows all that out of the water. I guess it's just fate. Either we had vehicles that were such a handful to drive, you HAD to pay attention, or now, safer vehicles, yet the operator is what really needs improving. To the families,,sorry, but this is the cost of our modern society,,,is it worth it?

Yeah, that's a conundrum, an axxhole during the holidays. Again, cell phone. Makes people think they are the only ones in the world, "quick, get over to Toys R Them and get that last Elmo doll". Trouble is, everybody has that same phone and the same idea, throwing caution out the window and this is the result. Before cell phones, there was an understanding, of sorts. Easy does it, we'll all get there. Today, in our instant gratifying world, some just don't realize what can happen, until it's too late. The thing that REALLY gets me, okay, 4 wheelers are bound to have problems, but to see semis stacked like cordwood, tells me, even a truck driver, that SHOULD know about changing conditions, plows blindly into these backups, and THAT's where the fatalities come from, not 2 Subarus bumping each other. This should pass long abouts April,,in the meantime, speed on, got a ways to go. While I have no sympathy for insurance companies, how can the industry continue to pay out all these damages year after year? Then people have the gall to complain about the rates.

You'll be happy to learn that Oregon's northern stretch of I-5 took out about seven tractor trailers in the past 24 hours.

Jack knifes, over rolls, a few just drove off the road, and one ended up in the comedian. The carnage rivaled what you normally see in Wyoming.

Crews were hand offloading the tractor trailer that overturned in the median.

The four wheelers fared much better as I only saw maybe five that were parked on the shoulder.

Truckers are always in a rush up and down I-5. No doubt a few of them learned a hard lesson yesterday.

My pet peeve is when the news blames a bunch of wrecks on winter weather. No, it's bad driving. What do people blame the wrecks on in clear weather?
