Hey ya'all got a situation here I'm weighing my options.
Quick background info: Driving 100 years, my own tractor and trailer....Yada, yada... Never had a ticket or accident, ever. Anyway..that's not the point, I'm not a newbie, far from it. ...been an O/O several decades.
December I got a bad level 1 inspection and it hit me hard, broken brake chamber mounting bracket, a tire that read 40 Psi, considered flat, a set of brakes not in proper adjustment. I haven't had a bad inspection like this ...EVER. I think my ego took the biggest hit because I spend a LOT of money keeping my truck running in perfect condition.
I don't have a history of making bad decisions. I have a great credit score, own a beautiful house, my trailer is brand new, etc. My tractor and trailer had been recently inspected exactly 2 months prior to this inspection and it passed 100% no problems, so needless to say I was shocked.

SO---- I've been thinking about parking my truck and going to work for a company as a company driver. Do you think the new company will try to hang this bad inspection over my head or not hire me at all? Like I said, this was a complete surprise to me since I had recently had my tractor and trailer inspected and got my annual inspection stickers and paperwork. This was a fluke thing, not my normal way of running my truck.
Should I stay put and run my own truck for the next 3 years until this bad inspection falls off or try to explain it to the company I'm looking at?

    Thanks, later.

    Not sugar coating anything here.

Apparently you haven't learned how to inspect the truck or hire mechanics to find problems.

    Perfect condition with those violations?

    40 psi?

Get an internal sensor tire pressure system, not the valve cap junk.

Seriously take a step back, get into the habit of doing an inspection your truck ON A DAILY basis to keep it running legally.

    Was it a DOT inspection?

IF it was, they are meaningless.

they are just done to get a sticker and that's it.

99% of those we get while on the road always overlook problems.

If I was you, I already made the investment in the truck, keep running.

Keep running your truck. Inspect more thoroughly more often

Ok, I can understand not catching a broken brake chamber bracket right away. But a 40 psi tire should be easily detectable with a tire thumper, or even just looking at it.

That said, none of this sounds like a reason to sell out. Just fix the issues and move on, LOL.

You can’t trust others, especially these days. I trust no tech in my current employer’s shop to catch it all or fix it right. They simply can’t get good techs, even with offering more money than the KW dealership.

And, it sounds like you simply became complacent. It’s easy to do. Make the necessary changes and move on from it.

Flow through caps make it super easy to check pressures.

I have a Stanley 12V spotlight (Walmart automotive section) I use to periodically walk around and look at things. I just put the beam on every area of interest and it definitely allows me to see EVERYTHING in that area.

With your level of experience and investment, no way I’d ever consider being a company driver. It’ll negatively impact your mental well-being way worse than a bad inspection. Don’t set up yourself to feel like a failure. Use this as a learning experience and keep rolling.

Id recommened doing your own dot inspections everyday like you are supposed to. Although a broken brake chamber bracket and flat tire can happen while in transit. #### always seems to break and then u get pulled for inspection. The trucking gods just like to f with people.

I will save any criticism for those who think they are perfect and may have already scolded you. Believe it or not tires go flat and other wise good parts break after you inspect them. I am meticulous with maintenance like you probably are, but I have found flat tires at the end of my day even after inspecting them in the morning and every time I stop. This is the second system I have used to monitor my tire pressure. They are slightly quirky to program but they do a great job for real time tire monitoring. I don’t use them on my trailer because I have the Hendrickson Tire Max and the light on the side of the trailer should notify me of a big problem. 4ABFED10-9446-4C94-9BF4-E34D7C2404A1.png

Keep doing your own thing. And keep a better eye on your equipment. You'll probably get pulled in more often now and get more inspections. The way the system calculates it now you actually want to get some good inspections to lower your points average. I think it falls off after 24 months, your company record anyway. First 8 months points are x3 next 8 they are x2 and no multiplier last 8. It'll be gone before you know it. Look up your own score on this website: Safety Measurement System

You'll kick yourself more when you're in that Cascadia doing 65 in the left lane cuz you moved over to let someone on now they hang you out there or you're waiting in a truck stop far away waiting for dispatch.

Take a deep breath and relax. One bad inspection is not going to stop the operation. I wouldn't lose no sleep over it( let the ego go to sleep) :D:D. If you want to park your truck and go work for another company that one bad inspection isn't going to stop you from getting hired if it does that company is a headache you don't want. It's a new year go make it happen.
    Happy New Year :D:D

Did you decide to become a company driver before or after your DOT inspection?
