On a technicality no, it's not required to have IRP & IFTA to cross out of your home state tagged for 26,001lbs or more..

But you'll go broke buying trip permits without them, & the hassle won't be worth it..

So unless it's a one off deal, you'll want both IRP & IFTA..

 

Don't forget the 'Uniform Carrier Registration', if applicable, every year too. Cost varies by the number of trucks in the fleet

 

Need to get a KYU number from kentucky if you haven't already.

 

You’ll need KYU if traveling through Kentucky. New York HUT for NY. Arkansas Ad Valoreum tax if traveling through Ark. Ark will find you, I wouldn’t bother calling them. Then there’s others out west. Not sure, maybe Arizona, Oregon, and maybe one or two more, with their Own goofy mileage taxes.

 

Oregon is not part of ifta so u have to file with them speratly and if crossing the border to the state you either need annual fuel tax permit or a 1 time trip permit... you only need to get setup if ur gonna travel thru there...

New Mexico is part of ifta but they have separate hvut tax. 10 dollar annual permit and file separate hvut tax every quarter along with ifta... now conneticut is doing the same thing starting this year..
