4000 lb. WLL.Matt1924 Thanks this. -
In the late 70's I worked at a co. that made planting mix from sawdust with added ingrediants, and we bagged the finished product into 50 lb bags at our facility. Then palletized them. Then loaded them on flatbed. And used ropes to tie them down, which was legal in Ca. ( I'm not sure if still legal) But we only did local around S. Ca. area, mostly Sears stores and nurseries.

I used this type of knot. I know there are others but this one was my one to go too.

We used rope all day everyday when I was a young punk in the oil fields in Midland/Odessa approx 81ish timeframe on flatbed trucks and sometimes we delivered with a 1 ton pulling a hotshot trailer. All oilfield chemicals.
I could not tie the knot again today if you paid me but it was very similar to the knot @Diesel Dave posted if not the exact same. You could make them crazy tight and release it very easy.
We did some really dumb stuff back then and I don’t remember the half of it. I had barely gotten my license and was running and gunning and if not for two older brothers to keep me out of trouble my life would have surely ended up completely different Lolol.Matt1924, Jubal Early Times, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this. -

Sailors have used ropes for literally centuries to tie down freight, moor ships, and adjust sails. As a result, a sailor had to know dozens of different knots, and use the correct knot for the situation. The only problem with ropes for tying down freight is that you need a LOT of them, and you have to keep checking on them....

That’s very true. I still only use poly rope to secure things on my personal utility trailer and with the right hitches everything works just fine
