That works great, until the cops come and Taser you then pull your limp body out of the truck. Once out of jail I hope you can afford the impound fees to get the truck back.

Anywhere that has lumpers equals a nap for me. Some places are gonna have lazy people or not enough people. They probably ain't getting paid that much money either. Low pay + grouchy truckers + at times back breaking work = lack of motivation to hurry up and get drivers out of there. They may be charging out the rear for lumping a load, but how much of that goes to the workers? Most of it goes to whatever warehouse they are lumping for, so the lumping companies get screwed too. I had a lady working for Capstone at a Sysco tell me this. Now......3 pallets, you say.....you do have the option to take it off yourself. If you say you can do it faster, you may want to consider that option next time.

no lumpers for flatbed, lumpers are usually food warehouses, so dry bulk, tanks, parking lots, livestock, no lumpers. all of those pay better also. they also involve more labor but like i said, no lumpers. most of the lack of respect you see is in dry vans, that was a part of reason i got out of vans. warehouses see hundreds of trucks a day, they could care less about you. and while i have waited to load on flats its always been because of unforseen issues and they are trying to get you out. basicaly harder job, more money and respect, or bump docks and wait while being treated bad.

If they wouldn’t unload my flatbed in a reasonable time I would just unstrap and hit the brakes hard until everything fell off.
But I pull a dry van so thankfully don’t have to deal with that…..

It would be hard for them to make a case of trespassing against someone who they gave an appoinent time to. "He's trespassing, even though he showed up when I told him to."

a heavy set feller with grey sweatpants that are dirty and torn with one flip flop is a picture that comes to mind.

Don't blame the lumpers for being hourly, blame the govt for exempting truckers from the FLSA and not making sure all drivers get hourly w/ OT after 40.

if drivers were getting paid hourly and OT, you can bet things would improve, dispatchers would be yelling at brokers, brokers would be yelling at warehouses, lumpers would shape up real quick.

Honestly curious as to what the reasoning is behind OT not applying to truck drivers?

I mean, even the high school kid working at McDonald's gets OT over 40.
