Have you ever considered the fact that open carry:

allows for a faster, one-handed draw with less chance of entanglement,

serves as a deterrent to would-be attackers,

allows those of us who maintain situational awareness to protect ourselves from crossfire by knowing in advance where a source of fire will be if something goes down,

    and

generally indicates that the person carrying will only use their firearm for defensive purposes?

    Gangbangers don't open carry.

Gun control only disarms those who obey laws. You know...the very people you never had to worry about in the first place.

Theyre also noted for their fully legal ccw permits etc arent they?

As for the rest, in the usa you statistically have a greater chance of dying of covid than ever being even incidentally involved with absolutely any kind of shooting. That is to say, an extremely low chance. Even Vanishingly small, this of course presumes youre not the kind of idiot that apparently actively seeks out escalation. THE EXACT KIND OF BEHAVIOUR THAT OPEN CARRY TWITS DO, knowingly or not

This is not the 1840s west, there is absolutely no good reason to have a weapon openly displayed in public if you arent actively using it.

"Here in our world, truckers didn't act right and in comes elogs"

Bullcrap, you made a causal link between truckers being the ones that made elogs happen, walk back that statement and no problem with what you said, but otherwise, dont accuse me of misrepresenting you

This quote is from a letter to James Madison arguing for "governments wherein the will of every one has a just influence, as is the case in England in a slight degree, and in our states in a great one". Such a government's "chief evil" is the risk of turbulence, but having the government be subject to the whims of the day is a less evil than being under the heel of tyrannical monarchies. A century and a half later Winston Churchill would echo this thought - "Democracy is the worst form of government, until you look at the alternatives".

Jefferson also said "It may be proved that no society can make a perpetual constitution, or even a perpetual law. The earth belongs always to the living generation. ... Every constitution, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years". In other words, it's up to contemporary society to make appropriate rules for the day at hand.

I won't embed the video as there's cussing, but I seriously doubt open carry reduces the risk when carrying a round in the chamber.

And that's before thinking about winter clothing.

Or makes you a victim of trigger happy law enforcement

What happens when you're 25 yards away from where the altercation begins and catch a stray round?

I open carry everywhere I go. So do police officers. I'm a law abiding citizen, and I can promise you that you want me on your side if anything happens.

Our church was threatened two years ago during camp. We posted up on the corners. The sheriff came and laughed saying we were better armed than him.

I'm not worried about being "incidentally involved," whatever that means, I'm worried about being intentionally targeted again.

Right, because there's absolutely no sense in deterring would-be attackers (like the crackhead who jumped on my running board in Birmingham as I was making my way to the Pilot) nor in allowing other law-abiding citizens to know that a firearm is present. /S

And as I previously mentioned, some of the reasons for open carry have absolutely nothing to do with displaying the weapon.

Nothing in the article indicates that the FBI agent was open carrying, so I'm not sure why you're presenting that story as an argument against open carry. On top of that, he was a really poor example to choose because he was in violation of multiple laws, agency policies, and / or gun safety rules.

And IANAL but from what I read in the article, I believe the guy in Houston was indeed a defensive use. Texas law allows the use of force, up to and including deadly force, in defense of self, a third person, one's own property, or a third person's property.

I don't know how much more open it could have been. Pistol is in a holster on his belt, having his shirt tucked in wouldn't have changed what happened - gun owner did something irresponsible and a guy across the room got shot.

As for Houston - yeah, first couple of rounds are legit. After he picks up the robber's gun he puts another round in the robber's back, then flees the scene.
