    Hey Huggins and Welcome:)

Were you trying to get WIA funding for training in another field?

Nope, trying to get funding for a CDL school. I drove a wrecker in '96 and let my CDL expire. Now I have to attend a CDL school all over again. Probably a good idea though. You know how it is "The older I get the better I was". :biggrin_2559:

WIA funding is designed to help a participant get available funding for training, if they don't not have a marketable skill.
You could try a surrounding county and other agencies to get qualified for funding.

    Best of Luck!!!

KC, as I posted earlier, I ran into the same thing as huggins. Have too much household income, am not on unemployment or food stamps. One laugh was at the info sessions, the lady presenting it said "If a person isn't working, they aren't paying taxes. This program is so people can get back to work, and pay taxes again. So the Gov't. does get a return on their money." Sounds great, but of 12 in the session, 7 didn't qualify, most because their spouse was working, and making minimum wage or a bit more.

Can I quote that? Kinda like "The older I get, the lesser I know"?

My husband got his CDL through WIA training in 1991. It took all of 8 weeks from the moment we filed to him getting his CDL.

I just started the CareerLink process last week and it's definitely somewhat of an ordeal. All kinds of hoops to jump through, orientations, resume writing, etc. and less than helpful staff, but what can you expect from a government program. You really need to take charge for yourself to see any progress here, but it'd be nice if there was just a little guidance so I wasn't wasting so much time trying to dig up all the information on my own.

I feel like if I could bypass all the CareerLink b.s. and just get into the WIA program right away it wouldn't be so bad, but they don't operate this way.

Hopefully this coming week I can get a case-worker, take my work-keys or TABE and get things moving.

If they streamlined the process (which they could), it would probably mean they would need less people to run it. And you know that ain't goona happen!

Yeah, that'd be way too efficient for a government program.
