I was thinking more for the summer commute. Even with gas below $1.22 I seem to burn about $85/week just getting to work and back.
I'd like to get a dual sport to start with. If I enjoy riding I'll probably move up to an old school looking chopper. Always liked the Indians.

I thought that was comical, one driver, thumbs up, another, the finger. Describes this industry perfectly. Riding a motorcycle has many challenges, many found out by experience. I did that, some, draft a truck, but it's not exactly a stable ride. Buffeting will be as bad as just "boots in the wind". It seemed modern wind deflectors made it worse. It's no skin off the drivers butt, if anything happens, it will be behind them anyway, I'd NEVER be in the middle of 2 trucks, however. The driver that gave you the finger was just jealous, is all. I think it's okay to take a break from the wind, but I tell everyone I know, STAY AWAY FROM TRUCKS!!!

There have been a few accidents with cycle drivers acting stupid when the truck stopped or slowed down.
But here is the rub, one of these accidents happened in Detroit, the driver never had a chance, not a chance, he hit the truck and lost control went into another lane and got hit by a truck doing 70. The family sued both truck companies and drivers and they won - Mike Wins!!blairandgretchen and SteveK Thank this. -
