If DOT offers you a job out of school don’t tell them you are waiting for a response from another company and will call them next week with an answer. When I called back I was told the job was filled with another driver more dedicated to the company.
I have even tried to reapply after the 6 month cooldown between applications and I keep getting application was not excepted emails.
I’d just retired from the military and after a year of the petty rejection emails from DOT I decided working for a company that required that level of blind dedication was never going to work.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

Thanks for the heads up on that, sorry to hear they treated you that way. I too am retired from the military and hate to see and hear of fellow vets being treated that way. Thanks for your service and I hope you found the right fit for you somewhere else.

I don’t blame them. You’re either committed or you aren’t. There are so many applicants they don’t need or want half-commitments. It’d be just like you proposing to a woman and her saying “I want to wait and see if this other guy is going to propose.”. Essentially, you’ve told Dot, the other company is higher on your list, just like the woman telling you there’s potentially someone she sees as being better than you. Don’t blame Dot.

They celebrate and accommodate veterans and there are a huge number of them working there. Also, there are a large number of retirees, from all walks, working there.

Don’t let someone else’s negativity skew your original thoughts. It’s easy to let one negative person shadow over every positive person. Those people are called viruses. It’s a problem in this industry and on TTR.

Remember @ducnut is a spokesman for DOT. They sure were quick to attack my character.

I believe DOT will pay what they say but DOT is going to work you hard for it. Don’t commit just because they say something. Being military we both know how that ends up. (Dear John and a drunken haze in a dive bar)

Are there better jobs? I work 4 on 3 off (2000 miles/week) home every night and make the same as I would have at DOT working the 6/3. You just have to wait to find them.

I’m not a spokesman for them, as I no longer work for them.

You blamed them for something you did and I simply pointed out the fact of the matter. I plainly stated that. It’s not an attack, at all. Am I wrong? Apparently not, since you didn’t refute it and, now, you’re trying a different angle, using being a veteran to try and save face.

I’m a veteran, too. It doesn’t make me special or part of some kind of a club.

So, you make ~$1.05/mile, these days? Seems unbelievable. But, good for you!

    *$110,000 / 52 weeks = $2115 per week
    *$2115 / 2000 miles = $1.05 per mile

@sempergumby6105 If you’re still interested, yesterday, I talked to my buddy who is still there. He finished last year at $114K and didn’t touch a box. Granted, he’s top scale. Also, he said they just got pay increases, across all categories (multipliers).

That's great, thanks for sharing that. I'm heavily leaning towards DOT right now. I have an all but guaranteed local tanker position available and a possible local car hauling gig so quite the different paths to pick from. DOT seems to know how to treat their employees and you can't beat that.

I’ve pulled tank. Cars intrigue me.

Wow!! I don’t know where you are getting your numbers. The link is to DOT’s web page. It is about $10,000 more than when I applied… but your number is about $40,000 off. And I’d bet that $68,000 is the top 95% so you are looking at mid $50,000 for the normal people.

I once had an employer tell me I could make $70,000 a year at $0.38 a mile if I kept my mouth shut and let them doctor the logs. Your $110,000 starting sounds just like that.
