I'm at orientation for a company and I was told that I would be making $100 per day throughtout the whole period, which is what everybody else was told as well. Today, Day 1, we were told that they're changing the pay structure and will only pay the original rate for the rest of this week. Starting next week, they will pay $12 per hour while we're in class or driving. I did the math and this will likey cause my total pay for orientation to be approximately $300 less than what it would have been without the change.
How would the rest of you respond to that?

Either walk out and go to a company that isn't a liar. or stay and deal with more and more lies. It will never get better.
The $300 really isn't, to me, the issue. It's the fact of the bait and switch.
But just know if you stay they will continue to lie, not only about pay but about everything including safety stuff that could effect your CDL status,12 ga, The Railsplitter, Flat Earth Trucker and 10 others Thank this. -
However it’s still a decent deal and isn’t going to last forever.
Fact is times are getting tougher by the day for everyone..
If you like the company then just hang in there and get through it.
Best of luckBennysPennys, born&raisedintheusa, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
My instinct is to deal with it. While $300 isn't insignificant, it's not a huge amount either, and this is orientation, a period that's all cost for the company, no productivity. With that said, I have this feeling that, like @ZVar said, this may just be the beginning. Pay and hometime are red lines for me, and now they've messed with my pay on day one.

Day one was told that they changed their training policy and if we didn’t like it there’s the door.
Because they were having too many issues with new drivers they extended the time you had to spend with a mentor. One of the reasons I was attracted to the job was short training period.. I was upset but understood the reason for the change.
Lol, after 3 weeks with dopey mentor I wanted to beat him to death..so that was the end of thatThe Railsplitter, motocross25, BennysPennys and 4 others Thank this. -
BennysPennys and Concorde Thank this.
