They take our money and treat us like dumb stupid low life beings. I found 3 owner ops and one decent size carrier that have the same problem that i have but those poor guys bought trucks in different states and can not bring a lemon lawsuit against peterbilt. I am still on hunt for more new truck owners that have this same problem as it seems the suspension is poorly installed ,damaged ,missing parts or poorly designed thats causing this.cant say for sure as i am not a tech but if the issue is widespread i can see a class action in near future.

Most people who don’t like them either haven’t driven one or have driven a pre-2015 one. Or have one that didn’t have the emissions maintained. A close friend of mine is running a mix of Cummins and Paccar in his tanker fleet, 2019 and newer. He just had to overhaul his first Paccar at just under 500k. It was still under warranty and Paccar sent a new long block without any hassle. He’s had to overhaul 3 X15’s, all under warranty, and one didn’t even make it to 300k. My previous truck had 600k on a Paccar when I sold it and the milk company that bought it still has it on the road. I’m currently at 132k on my new Paccar and everything is running as it should. I don’t have any experience with and I don’t personally know anyone who has anything smaller than the 510/1850 Paccar.

The last one I had as a company driver was a 2015 with a 485, actually I had 2, by the time one got fixed at the dealer I would drop the second one off for repairs, by the time it was fixed the first one would have another issue

I’ve been to NH Pete for parts before but obviously never bought a truck from them, I explained my situation to the guy and he was more then happy to help, just said they had no Cummins slots left

I *think* model year 2016 is when the update happened. If the ones you drove had that plunger looking deal by the turbo it would be an old one. The fuel system and EGR are pretty much completely different than the first ones that they put out.

No doubt you’ve seen the constant PACCAR issues I’m around, with the 455/1600. Two employers, same engine, tons of issues. There has to be something completely different about the 510/1850, keeping them relatively trouble-free.

Most likely they are all RAR issues. Spec'd in the wrong RPM range and having issues is my guess.

If I were forced to guess, that's what I'd say as well. My 510/1850 is at 540K, and not a single hiccup, but it spent most of it's life at 1,400 RPM.

I’m guessing, fleets mostly order the 455 and spec too tall of gear? Whereas O/O’s spec mostly the 510 and gear it to spin?

My last truck had an 18 speed and 3.36 rears on low 22.5’s. I bought the truck second hand but it was right around 1400 at 70. My friend with the tanker company has 13 and 18 speeds with 3.36 on low 22.5’s. My current truck has the 12 speed auto and 2.79 rears on low 22.5’s. My guess is they could be gearing them too fast and the engines are lugging in the top gear without the high end to pull it and then once it downshifts then you’re out of the torque curve the other way. But there has to be a reason why the 455 is plagued with issues and there seem to be many 510’s that are fine.

Feedman, dwells40, ducnut and 2 others Thank this.
