Some great advice I got in this forum before I got started was to avoid limiting your options, i.e. get your endorsements and if you can test out on a manual, even better.
I'm seeing why, now that I'm coming off a year of OTR and looking to go local...more options out there.

Thank you for the responses.
I currently live just north of Valdosta, GA.
I plan to attend "Troops into Transportation" which is a course by The CDL School. From my understanding, they test on manual trucks and aid with additional endorsements. They also aid with job placement, which to me, seems the best way for those companies to find the cheapest labor possible.
I have nothing negative in my past and no drug usage.
I am aware that I don't need to be near a terminal, but I've also read that not a lot of companies allow drivers to take their trucks home.
Thank you again for the input.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Do you want to run OTR or regional or local.

YRC Inc./YRC Freight Hires new cdl school grads.
Vested for a Teamsters Union pension at 5 years.
This is local work, so if you want to run the roads, then keep looking.
There's a terminal near you.

Here is the current (as of this writing, anyway) list of approved schools for Davis Express:

Atlanta is a high risk area, but Valdosta might be far enough away to fall outside that area.
When I started with them I lived in San Diego, which is also high risk. But I was allowed to bobtail home, even so.
I guess I lived in a better part of San Diego?RiggerWings and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -

As of the time of this writing--it looks like Swift is hiring in your area:
Class A Dedicated Driver - Valdosta, GA 31601 - Indeed.com
At least 2 Forum members here have reported good long-term experiences with Swift.
I would recommend their training over that with Schneider, based on my own experience.
Earlier here, DOT foods was suggested.
That's a good suggestion--but since you're more than 100 miles away from their facility in Vidalia--getting in with them looks like a long shot to me.
Still....you could try.....but don't hold your breath....it's a great gig, if you can get it:
