Anyone that said you can’t get pell grants for a trade school lied to you. There is an aviation maintenance school near where I live that has a huge portion of every class on Pell Grants.

It has to be accredited, which eliminates most cdl schools.

Yes, but that is not what he said. He said “You can’t use pell grants for trade school”, and that is absolutely false. As far as CDL schools, if lack of accreditation eliminates most schools, doesn’t that imply that there are accredited schools that can be funded via Pell Grants? Also, with the new entry level driver training thing, all the approved schools are accredited, right? (On that point, I don’t know about the approval process. It is irrelevant to me)

Most short training programs are ineligible unless it ends up conferring a degree. So I think FVTC students can use Pell grants, but NWTC cannot because they don't get a degree at the end.

A community college near me offers two programs for a CDL. One program is six weeks long, give or take, and the other is a full semester. The semester-long course is eligible for pell grants and student loans, but the shorter one isn't.

I think you're right about the degree being the difference. A program has to follow the same structure as any other degreed program to be eligible for traditional financial-aid. Most CDL schools don't do that. I know the one I went through didn't. I used the WIOA through my local unemployment-office.

Your attention grabbing thread name is what doomed you. Be careful when craving attention you'll soon get it.

Personally speaking i didnt even know the Teamsters had a program. I would have been all over it especially if i didnt need to travel, lodge and feed myself for 6 weeks.

WIOA was a joke and wouldn't accept me after a personality test said that I'm a conceptual learner and am too smart and wouldn't be happy driving a truck. 3 months in and i TRUCKING Luv it! WIOA, typical broken gubment program being run by the doofuses at Manpower.

Millis has a great program that i owe ONLY $2500 for. Debating contesting not paying for breach of contract on their part. No detention pay. If i could give my Millis classroom trainer $2500 to satisfy said debt i certainly would. The industry needs to head towards apprenticeships with real truckers whose records indicate that they are safe and can train other people. Oh wait, that's what the mega companies currently do.

And conversely you can get the auto restriction removed "easily." I say easy assuming you have access to a manual truck (i do through new employer). The owner of my company is a bonafide 40+ year gear jammer and autos simply make better business sense. The only problem with autos is that they don't make the shifting override as easy or straight forward as it is in personal vehicles. His thought is, manuals are going away.

Simply put, there is no one stop solution for CDL Training and school. Every area of our vast nation is different. Stop thinking like the government.

When you say Manpower, are you talking about the staffing company or is that what your state calls their employment agency?

Manpower staffing is a huge government contractor. They administer significant percentages of welfare yo work, post incarceration job assistance, training grants.

That makes sense. I was curious because he said he had to do a personality test to get the WIOA funding. When I used the program, I had to take the ACT WorkKeys exam, but it didn't have anything on it related to personality, at least not that I remember. But I got the funding directly through my state's employment agency.

The truck driving school I went to was accredited by both the state and federal government(degree and all),so I was able to get student loans. You have to check carefully on the schools you’re looking at and verify if the accreditations will permit you to get loans to cover it.
