In the type of winter storms that hit the north central plains and the Rockies they do... I've seen (more than once or twice) 5 to 10 miles of vehicles stuck on I-80 in WY, I-90 in SD, and I-94 in ND... For 12 to 24 hours or more. Some times the only thing you can do when that crap happens is go to bed.

Absolutely correct. They can and do.

2 trucks parked side by side on the freeway with no one in front of them? Nope, I dont buy that for a second.

Guy didnt even get out of his truck after getting hit? Nope, dont buy that either. (Now frankly it would be the drivers fault if he did hit someone, even at 25 mph as clearly he was driving too fast for the conditions safety would rule).

No trooper for 12 hours? There is a chicken house within 5 miles of where he describes this happened. Cops in and out of there all the time. No one was in front of these 2 parked trucks, so clearly the road wasnt closed, and if it was troopers would be checking it by driving the route after they closed it to make sure no one was stranded.

Weather that closes the road for 12 hours in that part of the country doesnt just blow up. Like I said, not too many ltls go in and out of Fargo, and I cant think of any that would send their guys out with a storm coming. Dont know too many drivers that wouldnt call off if the company WAS sending them out with a storm coming.

Not a part of the world that anyone that runs it takes chances on.

My dad has a eye witness to all of it. And it did happen and whether you don't buy it or not. Companies do send drivers out all the time. When I drove for saia we had to make an attempt at our run. So yes it does happen.

Wait.....so daycabs don't have brakes now????
FWIW, when I used to drive the upper midwest a lot, you often saw LTL guys stuck at a truckstop during a blizzard sleeping (or at least just resting..) in their daycabs. Most LTL companies will pay for a motel room in situations like this. No, sorry, it sounds like your dad just ignored company protocols and didn't properly document the accident; things like pictures, getting name and company info of the vehicle he hit, getting details like the time and conditions (even if it's just a recording on his cell phone).

When I got shut down in Clear Lake the company paid for a room. The motel was doing construction in the next room, so I went out to my truck to get some sleep :p

Put a clipboard with the clip end on the side of the seat and the bottom end against the door makes a good backrest, feet up on the jump seat, and your hood pulled down over your eyes and night night. But like I said in another thread, I was Army. I can sleep anywhere.

Well.....there isn't a police report. In theory, if there isn't a police report then it didn't happen. The problem is your dad got let go. I'm not so sure what getting an attorney involved will do for you here. It's so many holes here. Your dad needs to figure out exactly what went on his DAC and the works. Then he will be able to figure out how to word things to prospective employers. He may, however, need to be prepared to take whatever job he can get at this point.

Saia I believe would do that. LtLs Ive worked for are Conway Central Express (before XPO bought them), USF Duagan (before Yellow bought them), Midland Express (before they went out of business), Amerian Freight (before Fed Ex bought them), R&L Carriers, Estes, and USF Holland (after Yellow bought them but before they merged with Yellow). And the ONLY one of them that would send us out was Dugan, and that was back in the mid-90s.

Driver is "Capt of the ship". Driver is the one driving and is out "in it", as we say. Your friendly dispatcher is sitting in his nice warm office barking out orders, in your dads case, continue on, driver. You mentioned a tow truck was behind the 2 trucks parked in the travel lane. I would think he had flashing lights on. And after the accident, did other vehicles come along and not hit anyone ? We now have two parked trucks, a tow truck, and your dads truck, ALL in the travel lanes.
