Finally
Teachers being made accountable, I just hope this catches on all over the country
Hmmm pay for performance sounds like a good idea, to bad the teachers don't feel they need to live up to it -
Central Falls High has long been one of the worst-performing in Rhode Island. Just 7 percent of 11th graders tested in the fall were proficient in math. Only 33 percent were proficient in writing, and just 55 percent were proficient in reading. In 2008, just 52 percent of students graduated within four years and 30 percent dropped out.
These teachers should be fired, and I'm saying this from the viewpoint of being a future (hopeful) teacher! These numbers are disgusting! Teachers are supposed to educate and inspire their students, and set them on a path towards success! Not just sit there and collect a paycheck! -
If they want the teachers to work more they should pay them more, but at the same time they need to preform their job. The only good way is to test the students, if the students are doing well no problem, but when they are doing poorly it's the teachers fault.
The teacher's union is a good idea gone very bad, the union has way to much power.

Now I also don't see how just "adding time to the school day" is going to help. If the teachers aren't going to teach in the alloted time they already have, what makes anybody think they will teach in those extra hours.
Considering all the restraints on teachers, all the criticism (including my own) and all the general crap they have to put up with, I don't understand how anybody in their right mind could ever even want to be a teacher... -
truckerdave1970 Thanks this.

Why they were wanting MORE MONEY FROM A BROKE DISTRICT FOR 25 MINS MORE WORK A DAY. This coming from a District that was paying on avarage over 50K a YEAR TO THEIR TEACHERS PLUS FULL BENEFITS. My kids school is going to be facing the same situation soon. We had a couple teachers get paid money NOT CVOMING TO THEM AND THEIR UNION IS REFUSING TO ALLOW THEM TO PAY IT BACK. The School Board can not talk to any teacher WITHOUT THE UNION REP THERE. THE UNION FILED A UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE BECAUSE THE BOARD WANTS CLOSE TO 220,000 BACK IN TAXPAYER MONEY YET THE UNION AND THE TEACHERS ARE SAYING HELL NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO PAY IT BACK.

Teachers only work 9 months a year
Most people work all year and don't make as much as a teacher

I for one agree with Baack its the same with police officers, the starting salary for a cop in my area is 38-42k depending on schooling, only a minimal amount of college is required, I am constantly being told cops don't make enough... I'd sure take a job that stated at 38k...
Teachers at our local school make between 30-40k depending on tenure. They have a fairly easy schedule, off most weekends, off almost all holidays, off 3 months of the year, we should all have it so rough.
Maybe they should act their wage, like the rest of us have to.Baack and truckerdave1970 Thank this.
