Yeah Im single, I do feel for the guys that try to support their families, but honestly there arnt many jobs us "unskilled" workers(which we are classified as) can get that pay better. I was a factory mechanic for Alcoa, for FOUR YEARS and made less. Pay is down everywhere not just trucking. I know its unrelated to the topic but you will find many people who have a wide variety of skill sets, and they cant get a job elsewhere. When I was doing landscaping last year, the crew leader for the block crew, they did patios and stuff, was a LAWYER! Its retarded.

You'll make more than 1k I think even being a bus driver :)

I hear ya man. Im single, and all i really have is a house payment. I know pay is down, it sucks. I just hope to find something, cuz even if i was 21 they ask for previous experience, well i cant get it if i cant find a job before then you know.

Don't rule out getting in through the back door. Such as dock work, maintainence, etc. Even grunt work at a dealer moving trucks around and the service dept.

I started when I was 19. It took a while to find a job but I found one eventually. I don't know what the deal is in FL, but I'd look into Agriculture. hauling stuff out of or into a feild that is. Out here, liquid fertilizer season has just started. Soone it'll be wheat and so on. Most of those sort of companies are real happy to see you. You'll be making your 3rd load before you even know who's name is on the door.

So, I posted a thread before about me being 19 and going to trucking school. I got a call from the school today. They told me that they can't finance the other half of my loan for tuition because I'm under 21. They said the bank they go through doesn't believe ill find a driving job. So I can't go to school yet. Even though I was going to be paying 2500 cash upfront and have the school finance the other half. Well, I'm going to try financing the whole 5000 through my credit union. Then if I do get hired as a yard jockey I wont be making no $400 a week. Because I'm buying a house in April, then ill have a house payment, loan payment for the tuition, plus other bills. I sent pritchett trucking an email about being a yard mule. I'm waiting for them to reply. But yeah, I may not make enough money to pay back all my loans and other bills. I'm just really bummed, I'm tired of working at this dead end call center. Im still going to go to the school, but only if I secure a job for when I graduate, and will be making at least the same as I do now at the call center I work for.
