Yup, that did it.
We wore these hats, and big flowery red shirts.
And they made corn bread in iron skillets.
We would toss the bread between us, and catch it in our pans, then serve it.
Sometimes between windows between rooms.
It would often be solo. just tossing up the corn bread and catching it back in the skillet.
Catching it behind the back was always special.
Once, I tossed it up and it (literally) hit the fan.
Pieces went flying, one into the face of a customer.
Everyone had a laugh, even the guy that got hit.
That was a fun place to work.

Retirement? You're much better off retiring to nearby bedroom communities like Pace, or Milton.
The winters there are very mild, compared to the rest of the United States.
Another thing to consider/be aware of: western Florida can be a hurricane "playground" of sorts, during that time of the year. Is that something that you can tolerate--when an active season occurs?

Wasn't really safe to go to the beach. Maybe it's changed since then. Seemed ok at first, then went downhill.
Maybe @Bgoat66 will update that for you. The Buela area where we lived was ok and on the outskirts of Pensacola. Nice area at that time and @Bgoat66 says it still is.
High school buddy of mine moved to Crystal Springs, FL and liked it enough to buy a home and stay there. Home prices are going up all over Florida due to people fleeing high tax states.
I'd love to move back to Florida though, it's a great state in my opinion.Deadwood Thanks this. -
I love Texas but the property taxes here are an absolute ball buster and not going to change. At least Florida shares the tax burden with all the tourists. I’d love to have a summer home in Deadwood, SD and a winter home somewhere in Florida but that seems unlikely.Chinatown Thanks this. -

It's the China version of Las Vegas.

I was in Pensacola during the early years in the navy quite a while back. Is McGuires still there? It always looked like such a fire hazard with the dollar bills lining the ceiling.
Also seville quarter aka "syphilis quarter" and "kids and squids" because you didn't have to be 21 to get in thereChinatown Thanks this.
