Always wished i had the knowledge and tooling to do that kinda work. Hell if and when i do my C15 swap im going to more or less be stealing a friends front end loader to move stuff and guessing while relying on youtube for 99% of it since i have zero bloody clue what im doing.
Swapping a head is hitting the extent of my knowledge and comfort zone. Stuff like alts, wheel seals, even a turbo or fan hub. Sure no problem. Down to frame stuff like that? Way outside of my self taught budget and knowledge zone.

Looks like a good project coming together from here. Are you replacing the steer axle with a heavier setup?JoeyJunk, Vampire, Rideandrepair and 6 others Thank this. -

It’s currently a 12k but I am guessing maybe could be a 14k beam. Honestly I am more concerned about the frame horns and front spring hangers. I do have a new 20k axle that I might put under it but if the rest isn’t strong enough what’s the point. We are doubling the frame and upgrading to 46k rears although the heavier rears are more for the drive components and air locker than anything else.JoeyJunk, Vampire, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -

other than going with a wider beam, I think the beam itself is the same whether it’s 12, 14.6, 18 or 20. It’s all the #### at the end of the axles and the extra steering box that can really make the difference from what I understandJoeyJunk, Vampire, Rideandrepair and 4 others Thank this. -
The only thing that should limit it is your budget, and if youre resourceful about it, that budget is not quite as limiting as most people think.
My current limits are a building to work in for long term projects and a 2nd vehicle to maintain some amount of revenue stream so i can afford to wait on parts/think through problems slower.
Frame work is really simple, but its just larger.
Full engine rebuild is a goal for me but 5000lb overhead lift is a bit much for my little 1600 lb tractorJoeyJunk, Rideandrepair, Arctic_fox and 3 others Thank this. -
Also, for just an engine swap, if outside, get your new engine ready to pop in, old one ready to pop out and just hire a wrecker with a boom. The guy that owned this truck before me did that in his gravel driveway, new engine was in back of his dually, think the guy only charged him 4 hrs, was just him and wrecker guy. Was 2 weeks from parking it to rolling again and he was flying solo on itJoeyJunk, Vampire, Rideandrepair and 5 others Thank this. -
Sold my friend a Freightliner air ride for his KW A model, I thought it turned out pretty nice.
Be a nice build you have there, appreciate you sharing it with us…
