They switched from a Microsoft based unit to android.

No longer running the update app on their servers, no longer compiling the data in Microsoft code, so you're sol for updates

Had the same gps, surprised yours lasted this long. I'd still be running mine if the screen/battery still worked. Better unit than the new ones.

 

It means the software in your GPS now is the only software it will ever have. I used my RM 740 for 5 years, the last map update was about 1 year after it was new. It neevr updated the maps again. 90% of all updates I ever got were updates to the unused ELD software. RM does not support their GPS very well.

 

Personally I'd just stay away from RM. Their units freeze up all the time. I've had my Garmin 1010 since it came out and it froze up one time, rebooted itself and went straight back to the map page without me having to do a thing. I think it says I just hit 200,000 miles with it. Garmin supports map updates seemingly for millennia.

I actually called in a map update for it for a road that was recently opened in south Alabama near one of our terminals. I showed the woman on google how it had the road and you guys don't, and a week llater I get an email from Garmin map support that says that highway will be in the next map update.
