30 years ago, the Blizzard of 93 hit. Was stepping north from Nawlins. Started snowing in Meridian MS and all southbound traffic was telling us about the horrors ahead. Had a rookie with me that had to get home to be with his family and so we were pushing. Bigroad was shut down at the 459 loop around Birmingham AL and traffic was backed up to Tuscaloosa.

Jumped off the bigroad, saw some motels and told rookie to stay put. Got out of the truck and went running up a hill to various banks taking out as much cash as I could (wow, I could run in those days!). Rookie got behind the wheel and tried to drive the rig uphill, but it started sliding backwards down the hill. I ran towards the truck (reckon I used to run a lot) slipped and fell on the asphalt and slid all the way down the hill. (Great Six, you’re going to be like that JB Hunt driver that got ran over by his own truck! So this is how it ends…). I closed my eyes.

“Dear Lord, thank you for a good life. Watch over Mom and…”

Suddenly, a mighty voice called out, “Hey Stupid! Get out of the middle of the road!” (I didst not know the Lord spoketh with thine Southern accent?). I look and I see an Alabama HP looking and laughing at me. “Why are you laying there?” Well, if I am going to get ran over by my own truck, I don’t want to see it! Where did the truck go??? “He slid into that motel parking lot.”

“What’s the scoop on the JB hunt driver getting killed by his own truck, Six?”

Don’t know if this was a lunch counter table like the Peterbilt blowing the air horn at a moose, but there was this story in the old JB cabover days about some hand calling out to JB about his side box open. JB set his cruise, swung out the door and tried to kick the side box closed, loses his footing, falls out and gets creamed by the trailer wheels. Early 90’s all the jokes were about JB and Schneider. Before that, Big R was the butt of all jokes.

First and San Carlos. Used to eat there quite often. They used to do an all you can eat minestrone soup and bread for $5.00 between lunch and dinner. Want to say 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
    Good food.

We just got over the vid. 1st time. 2 weeks later, still hacking and zero lung capacity. Doc says this can last up to 6 months.
