When times get tough--I don't think people really stop eating.

    Instead--they bargain hunt.

Some of those customers have probably switched to a cheaper version/brand of the same product....or stopped buying that product, entirely...and are buying something else, instead.

Despite all that's going on out there--consumers in the US still have a lot of food-buying options.

It's freight armageddon out here, contracts are not safe either.

We are currently in a race to the bottom.

I don't want to hear the whole supply and demand bs, that only goes so far.
If all trucking companies would set a bottom line of what NOT to haul for we'd all be in better shape.
More and more people just willingly going along to haul for fuel money, it's getting out for control.

I’m just going to throw this out here. It may or may not be the case. This private carrier may be cutting your miles because it’s become far cheaper to load this freight on an outside carrier that is will to haul it for peanuts than it is to run their truck. It’s not a slow down in shipping, but let’s face it. If you can ship it 30% cheaper it’d be bad business to not take advantage. Another case of cheap freight haulers hurting everyone.

That’s quite a thought. They reached a threshold where it’s still cheaper to outsource even with assets not being utilized and starving out a good portion of their work force and naturally having attrition to a degree. I’m sure all factored into the equation.

I wouldn’t want to be the person making that call, that’s for sure. Not sure I could work for a company where my job is to only factor in money and that’s the end all being all. Actually, I’m certain I couldn’t and wouldn’t.

I’m not saying that is what’s going on. But it is plausible.

Very plausible I agree, likely even given he described as hauling their own product and it being a good item that really shouldn’t slow down much

I mean when push comes to shove, companies will do what they have to to survive. The company I work for historically has not been one that would ever screw over their employees. In fact they go out of their way to accommodate people to work there until retirement. As I stated earlier in this thread I researched companies for about a year before I picked this one. I picked them based on all the major factors, but one of the highest was how they treated their drivers. With a great deal of respect. And up until now I definitely had seen that. And they maintain their equipment better than any other company I’ve seen out there. Anything, and I mean anything, even an interior lightbulb goes out on one of their trucks and they fix it immediately. Every time I come back to the yard the truck goes in the shop and they go through absolutely everything.

i’ve just got to find out if maybe in advertently I made someone mad and they’re trying to run me out, you never know. I only work with one dispatcher and maybe the dude just doesn’t like me. Who knows. I don’t believe I’ve given him a reason but it people can read things wrongly.

Regardless, I’m set up to do Uber so I’ll be out doing that. If this continues into another week or two I’ll definitely first have a meeting and if that doesn’t resolve it I guess I will have to go somewhere else.

A couple of our customers that run some company trucks are doing the same thing. Went all out paying drivers a few years ago, now just running the short loads out and most times DH back.

Can't pay drivers .70 a mile, fuel and etc and running for peanuts per mile.
Might as well do shorter runs.
