well guys, I WAS interested in mercer until I saw that they will lease you a trailer for $600 a month for 48 months! Are you CRAZY??? You would have to be insane to sign on that dotted line! $28,800 is a fricken RIPOFF!. I've found trailers a few years old but in VERY good condition for considerably less.
I think that tells you a little about how the company feels about the guys that go out and bust their ### every day. -
we came w/our own trailer

Is that a lease or rent. A lot of places charge $175 a week and more for trailer rental. I have had to pay as much as $275 but was for specialized trailer. And I don't think it says squat about how they treat their drivers. Few complaints on here and else where from current and former Mercer drivers. Not all peaches and cream, but not a tenth of the horror stories about most others.Lil Blue Pony Thanks this.

I lease a trailer and its worked out ok for me. Yes, you can buy a cheaper trailer but I wasn't sure if I wanted the obligation of buying another piece of equipment and it not working out. I did call around and check other places about trailer rental and Mercer is in line with them. My trailer is a 2009 utility and I priced a new one at a dealer and price is about the same and by the time you get through paying the interest it could be more.Lil Blue Pony Thanks this.

They OFFER you a way to get into a trailer... I don't see anyone holding a gun to your head forcing you to sign here.. If you want to buy a cheaper trailer and know where and can get the financing, go ahead.. No one is stopping you.. They're doing it as a service. They never used to offer anything. You used to have to come aboard with everything, if you didn't have it all, TOUGH.. go elsewhere..
However some people didn't have the credit, or some reason or another.. (like the other post above.. he didn't want to commit to a trailer if he wasn't sure he was going to stay..) The price isn't that far out of line for a new trailer, or just about new... Go look and post your results! -
Might want to check that. When I went into orientation with them you could not bring a trailer on. I do not know if that was just temporary or not. I know they had a lot of trailers they wanted to move. One of the guys wanted to know how I was in orientation with a great dane trailer and not one of theirs.
I have not seen redd post in a good while, but he was also in orientation with me and he leased one of their trailers. -
you can now...they had a glut or trailers they took back and had to move them....that just changed a couple months ago.......

Ok so maybe I came off a little "harsh". So far everyone seems to be happy with Mercer and that is great. But their trailer deal in my opinion is just another way for them to make money off the driver, not help the driver out. But that is just MY opinion.
I was really thinking that I would try and make Mercer my new home, but I would need to buy a trailer. No way am I going to use their trailer "deal". I will save my money and either obtain my own financing or just buy a trailer with cash. Each man can spend his money as he chooses and its none of my business or anyone Else's. If you are happy then that's all that really matters.
If anyone got upset over my post then I apologize, I won't tell anyone how they SHOULD be running their truck, as I hate it when people do that to me.
