I got an iPhone Xr on Friday. I wanted to get an iPhone that allowed me to use 2 lines. Then I ran into a problem with Verizon. I was using their prepaid service and with loyalty discounts was only paying $25 and some change a month for my service. Verizon dropped that plan and would not allow me to change devices. I had business in Newport News so I had my ride to drop me by the AT&T store and I changed my service to them. Sadly I still am paying $5 more for half the data. Still better than the $35 Verizon was planning to charge me. The people at AT&T treated me well and they got my phone number ported into my Iphone Xr. I then went home and converted the physical sim to an eSim. I am still learning this phone. Apple dropped the home button after the iPhone 8.
I have also discovered something interesting about the iPhone Xr. The phones sold for use in China and Hong Kong actually come with a dual sim reader that will allow two physical Sims. My Son In Law is using an iPhone Xr that he converted to a dual sim. He hates eSims. He has to use 2 phones, this way he can use the same device with both carriers. He told me last week what to get, when they are here in a month or so he said he will replace the reader in this phone. Beware, this trick doesn't work on most of the other iPhones.
Bought another refurbished phone.

Why not just use Google Voice for your 2nd number? It's free and you can even make calls from a tablet , PC or laptop. Just a thought.

Hopefully in 2024 my daughter and I will be making a trip to Europe. What I want to use the 2nd line for then is to get temp service that will work there. For now I don't need a 2nd line.

Seriously , look into Google Voice , as long as you have data or on wifi you can make or receive calls. The best part is it's free. I have this setup on my phone. I have different ringtones for each number so I know which one is ringing.

I don't have the luxury of going anywhere where my phone doesn't have access to data for longer than maybe at most an hour. I am still researching it but I have been told that some of T-Mobile's plans also include the internet aboard some airliners as well as working in Europe. I use a medical device that keeps a watch on my blood sugar. The reason I need the internet is my physician can take a quick look at the data if I start getting sick.
So for now I plan to stay with AT&T, and pay the 30 bucks a month for service. If we travel to Europe later I will put service in that extra slot that will work in Europe.
