Would think they'd be pushing them trying to get build slots for next year sold or at least spoken for by now. Especially if this is the last year for the 389.

I don’t deal with Steve directly, but a different salesman there at Tulsa. If you want to spec one out yourself completely custom, yes, you have to put a deposit down on the slot. And that’s been about what you’ve had to do since mid 2021 if you wanted one at all. Deposit for the spot is 5k that is applied towards the price once truck arrives and you sign papers. If for some reason you order one and put a deposit down but change your mind for whatever reason on taking delivery, they will give you back the 5k but I can’t remember the particulars as to “how”.

Backlog isn’t too bad right now. If you ordered one next week it would show up before end of Q3.

“When the 379 was discontinued in 2007, the brand launched its upgraded model, the 389, at the Mid-America Trucking Show in 2006.”

Taking that ^^ into consideration this 589 Unicorn would have been announced last year at MATS.

“At the moment, no official statement has been released by Peterbilt about the truth of the matter. Hence, this information is mere hearsay.

Unless the brand confirms it, it is safe to assume that Peterbilt will not stop making the 389 yet.

When will the Peterbilt 389 be Discontinued?
Peterbilt 389 will most likely continue its production for a few years.

If you’re an avid fan of Peterbilt, you would have noticed that each model lasts for 20 years before a new model replaces the older one.“

Nah. I’d never buy a 389 or whatever the 589 is or a 567 for that matter. I just get a kick out of how twisted everyone gets their panties about something changing. Or when people get upset about the dash and make comments about analog gauges when analog gauges haven’t been around for over 15 years now.
