I had a very bad experience with Stevens. I feel they just lied to me about everything from the very beginning. I would not go there if I were you. It is such a long story. Go to the posting "who's the worst of them all". I wrote a pretty long paragraph about my experience at stevens, but you may have to search for it through the pages. It was a while ago. You will be gone a minumum of five weeks every time you go to work with them. They will try to keep you out for eight weeks, and guarantee you 1 day per week worked. But then if after being gone eight weeks, they will give you eight days off. But, they will tell you they do not want drivers to take more than 5 days off at once, because of their trucks. They don't want their truck sitting for anymore than 5 days, if they can, they will give your truck to someone else if you take the time off you deserve that is longer than 5 days. You make your own decision. But I absolutely think stevens does not care a bit about their drivers.

o.k. if stevens is kind of a rough company to work for what about c.r.england? I mean what's the lesser of the two evils.

Actually, I have heard great things about crete and roehl. I do not know first hand, but they both hire newbs too. I have heard bad things about cr englands lease program, and thats all. But keep in mind I am one person, one opinion. But according to this site and a few truckers, crete and roehl are decent companies. Just some food for thought. I work for CRST and I am happy so far, but lots of people who went through their company-sponsored training are unhappy. I personally would not recommend getting a cdl with a company. I would get a loan and pay for it myself (I did do this actually). That way, you won't have to sign a contract. Contracts are bad. Very bad. Anyway, I wish you the best dude.

Run from Steavens like they are the black plague itself. Just my opinion, but from a position of knowledge. I worked for them for 6 months, that was all I could take. I was home twice in that time, they just could never seem to find me a load home to Florida, even though we hual beef in very heavilly, and orange juice out even more heavily. You will find with them that they will keep you on the opposite end of the country from where you live, so you are never close enough to just go home.I spent more time in yuma az loading produce, just to have my 2 days of work, 6 pick ups, repowered by a team, right out from under me, just to have to do it all again with the empty i was left with, knowing it would be taken from me again as soon as it was loaded. all for 26 cpm, and with prior experience!
IBP beef, and Tyson chicken is another good one. You will regularly be sent to pick up a load that is rush-rush, just to sit there 48 hours with no lay over pay, no detention pay, for a load that they knew wouldn't be ready for days. And to avoid layover or detention pay they will schedule the load for 2 hours before they even tell you aboput it, so that they can say you were late, and thus not eligable for pay.
But here is the real kicker. When I told them I was quitting, I was in Georgia, about 300 miles from home. I could have just abandoned the truck and gone home, but being an honest person I told them I would haul a load back to the Dallas area, so that I could return the truck to the yard. They said that would be fine, and they appreciated my proffessionalism. I got the load, hauled it to the receiver, unloaded 50 miles from the yard and went to the truck stop to call and ask if they wanted me to haul a load to the yard. They asked where I was, and said they would let me know. 15 minutes later a tow truck pulled up, I was ordered to get my s@#t off the truck by my driver manager on the qualcom, and was told I was on my own. Not a problem, except that they had access to my bank account via direct deposit, and proceeded to empty it for what they claimed was an abandonment and recovery. They never payed me for my last 3 trips, and left me begging family and friends for bus fare to get the 1300 miles to home.
Sound like a company you want to go to work for? Good luck, there are plenty of reputable companies you can go to work for. Stevens Transport is not one of them, just my opinion.

I would suggest you look elsewhere if you are talking about c.r. england. Not as bad as stevens, but still not good. I haul flatbed right now, and am an owner operator. I would suggest CFI, Roehl, Crete, all good carriers. If you wanted a real mans truck driving job(lol) I would suggest flatbed with Roehl, Arrow, Melton, Western express. I have personal experience with Arrow, not a bad company, just not what I was looking for. Melton is a sister company to CFI, Not bad. Roehl has both van and flatbed divisions. Don't know much about western express, but they have both van and flatbed. And all of the above(don't know about western express) have training programs for newby's. Just do yourself a favor, no matter how good they make it sound, don't lease purchase!!!!! I have experience with that too.

I didn't think anyone could access your bank account to withdraw funds except for you without some kind of written consent.

AMEN!!! I remember those stupid meat loads out of the stinky IBP plants. ETA of 4am (During the danger zone, mind you), and a deadline of noon. And then it wouldn't be ready till 8pm, you just sit for 16 hours every time you go there, at least. I got 34-hour restarts at ibp twice in my 35 days working there.

    PEACE
