Its a ground issue with swr like that...Run antenna at approx 45 degrees as well otherwise your getting cab reflect and it will be way over height.....
Fellas will make fun at the 45 degree angle but when you get rollin it will bend and sit straight up(depending on speed and wind)..
Post a cpl pics of antenna mounting..

Get a multi meter out,set on ohms and keep testing different points to see if it has to much resistance....
You did clean it down to metal where your straps are on right??

Vids on youtube to show how to test for antenna ground..

    dltdamien Thanks this.

Yes filed down the paint till fresh bare metal was exposed. I just bought a multimeter gonna work on finding the issue this week while I'm out working. Gonna have a brick on my dash in the meantime lol. Just want to say your vids really helped me get my set up this far and I really appreciate you passing on your knowledge. I saw the vid of you mentioning that they use aluminum bolts and washers might look into buying some stainless replacements.

Hold off on the bolts....As long as your copper ends sit flush and the washer on the bold sits flush you should be good....
You did put that black plastic washer on the bottom of the top side of stud correct??

Also bbi on youtube has some nice vids on bonding..Worth watching..

Make sure on your radios software that you have the swr and voltage protect set....

Yes I did. Gonna use the multimeter on Monday before my route to see if I can locate the issue.

Did you attempt to adjust the nail on the top of the antenna?

It's reading 3 on 1 and 3 1/4 on 40 didn't know if adjusting the nail could fix swrs that high. Still new to all this so be easy if this was the solution lol.

Are you using an external SWR meter?
