Well I guess you can’t edit titles when you screw up.
I did my IFTA yesterday and tried to submit a zero mile KYU return. The site wouldn’t allow it saying:
You have entered zero miles and are reporting no operations. However, you have been observed traveling for this filing quarter. Please submit actual miles traveled. If you have any questions or problems please email:
So considering I didn’t go further north than ATL in 1Q, I sent an email. KY responded with a printout of 4 Prepass “observations”. Dates, time, plate, location etc. It turns out an o/o terminated back in 2021 was still using my DOT number on his prepass. I got it all cleared up wasting about 2 hours of my time going back and forth with KY and Prepass. Just an FYI to all those fudging those IFTA and weight distance tax forms, or those still running paper logs.

Southerners and midwesterners get a reputation for not being tech saavy or using new technology. Couldnt be further from the truth, even govt agencies are on the bleeding edge of technology... if it will help them make money, or increase enforcement efforts

With as little data a single pass scan generates I wouldn't be surprised if there's every single toll transit in a database somewhere from day 0. The biggest concern of mine is the open license plate scanners most cop cars have on them these days. So much for being private. You're tracked everywhere on this earth.

There’s also cameras at a couple weigh stations that they use to validate logs and issue seatbelt tickets and cell phone tickets. Shouldn’t be an issue for responsible drivers, but closed weigh station doesn’t mean you’re in the clear in KY.

Nebraska is testing cameras not only at weigh stations, but placed along I80 that capture and will ticket you for handheld cellphone among commercial drivers and seat belt violations for all drivers. More states will be testing the same technology in the future.

Some states have been at this for a long time, technology is making it easier.

When I started at my last position in 2011; their IFTA was messed up and I started to get the reporting correct.

I realized that the company has misssed renewing the latest NY HUT decals midway thru it's 3 year cycle.

Being one of many items on my plate I hadn't handled the HUT when New York sends a letter indicating that we owe based on our IFTA reporting seven quarters based on all 80,000 pound units several thousand to NY.

I found out that I needed to file the actual missing quarterly reports and since 50% was not semi trailers AND knowing that the 'unladed weight method' is the cheapest HUT; I filed 7 actual quarters.

Ended up paying around $700.00 in fines and penalty/intrest.

Y’all act like this is a surprise ?

When it comes to moving money from your pocket to theirs , which IS the main goal of any government, along with control , has no amount of effort spared to collect it .

They can’t patch potholes or synchronize traffic lights or secure the border , but they can #### sure grab your money in a very efficient manner .

they steal 1/3 of the money you withdraw from your 401k assuming you will never pay taxes on it .
Yet billions are wired out of the country and they don’t steal any of it for unpaid taxes .

Pup97, ducnut, RockinChair and 2 others Thank this.
