    @Jubal Early Times
    Actually Florida really wasn’t a tourist state....except for Dade and Monroe counties until the early to mid seventies when the 4 fingered rat showed up
    And developers started pouring condos on cornfield ever since....Used to be Very truck friendly
    Course I’m old and living in the past

    Central Florida maybe, but Miami and Tampa was founded by rich Jews from New York. Richmond Hill Georgia was founded by Henry Ford and a stopover for all the model T’s headed south from New York to Miami.

    Mickey Mouse and his 'criminal mafia' - aka The House of Mouse.

    There were plenty of attempts to make Florida a tourist destination starting in the 1920's, but Disney moving in jump started Florida into being a 'destination'.

    Henry Flagler was Florida’s first visionary and predates everyone else.

    Governor DeSantis has done more for Florida than any prior governor. I’m not sure why the hate for such a minimal expenditure. Do you realize how much commercial benefit a Buc-ee’s will add to that area? Do you realize what DeSantis has done for Florida? Do you realize why nearly 1K people move into that state, everyday? navypoppop who?

    Not to get political, but it's the hypocrisy of "limited government unless it gives me a political advantage". I have spent zero time researching this particular issue beyond what's been presented in this thread, but what other companies would get the same consideration - both in terms of tax dollars invested in creating a viable location and the press visibility created by using the governors office to make the announcement? Would Kwik Trip get the same consideration if they wanted to expand into the state?

    It may be that because I was born in Chicago and came of age in DuPage County that I have a cynical view of government involvement in commerce, but in my experience anytime government gets involved in commerce the tax payer rarely gets a positive return on investment and kickbacks are prevalent.

    I wasn’t getting too deep, either. I was simply looking at added jobs, tax revenue, another tourist trap, cleans up the appearance, and needed updates to the traffic infrastructure, in that area.

    I’m downstate, outside SPI. The same crap goes on, down here. Always money for projects that never benefit the taxpayers, but, always benefit the connected.

    Evidently you no little about the area that Buc-cee's is building on. The traffic at the exit for the 2 Pilots and Loves is already a cluster and the exit for US 27 just south of there is just as bad. Having so many huge DC's i one area was a plus for Marion County in a tax sense but a nightmare for residents in the area. The new exit will help for sure but to build such a large travel area right behind a Pilot Travel Center doesn't make a lot of sense.

    A lot of what Gov. DeSantis has done during his tenure is for his own personal political gain not for the people of Florida. And almost everyone who moves to Florida has the same goals in mind. No state income taxes and warmer weather. Don't worry because the good paying jobs are generally far north of here and a lot less traffic in some areas. Did you ever try driving I-4 thru Orlando or I-75 no matter where during rush hour? A real nightmare and all the new exits will do nothing to eliminate the problem. I have lived in St. Cloud, Kissimmee, Ocala and Winter Haven and they all are congested and new road construction hasn't solved any traffic problems. I am Navypoppop, served my country and drove OTR for 45 years and 3 million miles.

    Currently that exit is a traffic hazard. I don't know why, but it seems to be a really popular place for getting off. Buckees or no, something needed to be done.
