Consider one of those electric assist fat-wheel bicycle. A lot lighter and easier to load and carry. The range on some is claimed to be 40 to 50 miles on a single charge. Charging through an inverter while driving and some can be used with 2 batteries. All for less than you should be able to get by selling you dirt bike.

I bought the bike in February specifically for this. I took my bicycle for a few months last summer, but it was just a PITA to put it in the truck, get it out, etc. And I wanted more range.

I like working my a'ss off, and then take two or three days off out somewhere where things can get a lil western.

I was actually thinking of you using the same or similar mount and locking and covering the bike when not in use.
I have seen this setup used with a lined vinyl bag with heavy duty velcro fastening and only a standard pedal bike.

Yeah, covering will definitely take a beating back there. I may also use the same mount to take my mountain bike from time to time (obviously with a few mods).

I've been fortunate so far to stay in a position where I'm making good money. But you get to missin mama and the kids, have a bad day, and it's easy to point this thing home.

Then get home, before you know it, you've been there a week.

Pissed off at a broker one Friday afternoon north of Coos Bay, I said eff it and deadheaded all the way to Arkansas.

Had I had this, I'd have cooled my heels, enjoyed the weekend, and made the best of a bad situation.

I am looking at getting a fat tire ebike for the same reason, right now I spend all my time in North Dakota but enjoy getting further west and further south when I am done with this account or try and take a break from it I want to be able to get out and see more of the country.

Late to the party, but had a thought that you'd like to try and get some kind of hinge on that thing so that you could just tip it from the back side, and maybe even a slide system to allow it to lock the bike into position in the modified frame holder you have on it, and then (it's light enough), to use it to leverage the bike up then slide it forward on the frame to lock it down.

I broke my head trying to figure out where'd I put my road bike if I was to take it with me. Haven't come with an idea yet. If someone has insights, please share them.
P.s I always find time and place for a jog or a hike, or even a cold plunge. It's just a matter of planning. Love having a good cup of coffee in small towns that are usually 10-20 bike min away from the truck stop. Or simply a 30-40 min workout on the bike. So why not.

Mocked mine up yesterday and got everything ready. Need to make a more sturdy platform to set my ramps on, then GTG.

Looks good, but won't that be pain and an unstable way to get it up there? I tried to draw something like I was trying to explain, and had to scan it with the phone and put in here...forgive the crudeness, but putting a hinge under the C brakets in the drawing on the loading side, should allow you to load it from the ground onto the beam you have, and then you just have to leverage the whole thing up with maybe a winch bar in a hole or bracket on the ramp? Just a thought.
