How heavy?

 

70K according to the customer. I think it might be a bit more. Was going to do it on 7 but had about 70K on the back 3 after loading. Luckily they are next door so I just threw a flip on it. Didn't want to stretch it any more.

According to my gauges I should be something like 18-48-62 for 128K gross. My WI annual covers me up to 170,000 and Iowa is $35 no matter what so over permitting the weight doesn't matter on this one. I'll weigh it tomorrow to know for sure.

 

Thanks. I was curious as you have the choice to stretch more or less, and was wondering (not doubting) about the placement on the trailer axles.

 

With the 4th axle I don't really need to have it open at all. Opening it 5ft did put that rear flange in a better spot as far as securement though. With the deck closed that flange was pretty much right on the tail edge of the trailer.

I could 100% scale it on 7 if I opened up another 5-10ft but then turns start to become a problem. Wisconsin really likes round abouts and I have about 10 to go through to get out of this town. Since the customer is literally our neighbor I just loaded it on 7 and then drove around to block to our yard and pinned on the 4th.

 

I’ve never pulled a stretch, but I pull a 4 axle trailer a lot. But does stretching it another 5 foot really make it any harder to maneuver than adding the extra axle?

just asking because I really don’t know. I wouldn’t think it would, but I have no experience.

 

In a perfect world the trailer should turn at the center of the axle group. Adding the 4th axle basically move the center of the group from axle 2 to between axle 2/3. That's 2.5 ft on this trailer. So if everything was perfect it should be slightly better turning than adding 5 ft to the deck length. Only adds 2.5ft to the spread between the KP and the center of that group.

The customer for these loads has a small parking lot that is hard to maneuver in as is so keeping it short to back in is better. I can dump the air in that 4th axle and then the trailer will pivot on axle 2 again so it a bit easier to back in as well.

In reality going down the road it probably doesn't make a difference either way.

 

Dropped the shiny new pump off this evening and loaded the old dirty one to take back home. Always nice getting round trip jobs like this. Forgot to order my return IA permit so have to figure that out in the morning.

This one is the same dims but some how 10K lbs lighter.

 

Deterioration. Loss of metal due to corrosion. Chlorinated water is tough on those babies. It looks like reservoir pumps, though they could be water treatment plant pumps.
If they've been pumping chemical water though, different rate of deterioration.
