Schneider is hiring experienced drivers from a lot of small companies that are going under due to the economy. Large companies are always going to have freight to pull. they can do it more econonomicaly hence the small companies going under, yes at times at the expense of the drivers, but i think those that can hang on will be fine.

Haven't decided yet on Schneider. Still early in the decision process. They are on top of my list along with Roehl (another military friendly company).

I agree that i think that it will get worse but i think we will find a way to pull it out. we always do somehow. I think that we need to rethink a lot of the things that we do and how we interact with the rest of the world first and the biggest thing that we need to do is wean ourselves off of the oil companies teat.

Got a young man at the Prime named Zach. Is a student driver. Chomping at the bit to get out on the road. Anybody know a good Illinois trainer? He is at Prime now waiting.. Hey NoTarps when did you leave Maverick? I left too, got sick of the Specialized

Shouldn't be too long. Most of the instructors are back in by the end of the week... pick up a new student over the weekend or Monday.

Right now there is a backlog of students waiting for instructors. When I picked up my student 4 weeks ago, they had students that were leftover from the class that had ended 2 weeks prior. I talked to another friend of my who instructs, and when they just got their trainee, the oldest ones were from one week prior, so it looks like it is getting better.

A lot of instructors don't like instructing this time of year due to not wanting a brand new driver to be behind the wheel of their truck in snow / ice. Tell him to hang in there, he will get someone eventually.

Is there a difference between a Prime Instructor and trainer...does he has to have one of those before he gets a trainer. He doesn't have a CDL, just a permit. Does he need an instructor from Illinois? Any instructors or trainers from Prime out here?

A CDL Instructor is just that. That's the first 10,000 miles, then it's back to the terminal to test out and get his ticket. After that, it's a Trainer to put the finishing touches on - a total of 60,000 miles - then he has an option to stay on for the final 20,000 or go solo for that. As far as where these guys are from it doesn't usually matter. If he wants some home time, they'll work out a load for them to get there, and pick him up afterword. Smoking/non-smoking status is usually a bigger deal.

Zachary and I were in the same class, But I was lucky to get a trainer. I talked to him a couple of times and he seemed to be a good natured kid. He is eager to learn, which is rare for 21 year olds now a days
