HghwyPilot: Route to go would be find a carrier to lease your power unit to in SE. Not enough experience for their insurance though if you're in the same boat as I am.

On my side of the fence, 10% of gross (with no cap) for trailer rent is insane. Originally it was for a 2010 Timpte, and I figured at least I was paying extra for a new unit with no issues. After dragging this 1999 Wilson (that I could find used for $25,000 - or less) while paying the same rate + insurance for it myself, I just see it as a leash and a drain on my income. I'm looking for a better deal on a rental somewhere until I can come up with a down payment and buy on my own. Anyone know some honest folks that rent good hoppers? -
I used to have a deal like that at one time.ill tell ya what i did. i took the trailer to a repair place and got it fixed.and i mean everything. even told the guy to take his time.after the company had some money going out they were offering me loads a plenty.plus i always call confirm time, product and rate with shipper before i move my truck.also it,s only my thought but your being ripped off right from the start.onetime i called about a load of corn rob was taking.it paid $17.00 a ton and no fsc.minus 10% broakerage and 10%for trailer. when i call on the load it paid $19.00 a ton plus 17cpm fsc.all from same place same dest same broker your boss goy it from..just sayin. I should be taking my trailer back to NE next week then run up to WI to get my own. At which point I will begin lookinng for more local/regional work near AR as well as some other brokers. MY TRUCK, MY TRAILER= MY DECISION to take the load. Bump running anymore 300mi DH unless the payarrants it. $1.61 /mi load sound good until you have to add 300miles of DH for 72-77% of the gross. I know how HWP feels. With the trailer and broker under the same roof we are under forced dispatch and nothing but parking the truck as any recourse.Last edited: Mar 4, 2010

5mouths2feed, their is a lot of hopper freight in Arkansas. Stuggart is the rice capital of the world. I picked up a load of rice bran just south of their in Dewitt and took it 87 miles that paid $21.75 a ton plus fsc. I get paid a percentage on anything that is 100 miles or less and I would love to have two of them a day five days a week and then you wouldn't be the only one moving to Arkansas. You might try Oakley about some broker loads, they have several river ports in Arkansas and I see outside hoppers running in their North Little Rock yard everytime I am their. Oakley buys and sells a lot of grain, salt and fertilizer.

HwyPilot, man you must have a lot of patience because I would have done told that dispatcher I was coming to Nebraska to beat some cense into him. I used to deal with a livestock broker in Nebraska that was a con and a crook and when he spoke he was lying. He worked out of his house and all the paperwork went to a P.O. Box so nobody could ever find him. Well good luck but I would be looking for something new and get away from that outfit before it is to late. Life is to short to put up with all that bs.
Maybe we can all go lease on to Wheathauler and he can retire to the house and become a full time dispatcher and find us all those high payin loads with no deadhead and home everynight. How bout it my neighbor to the north.
slabrunner and HwyPilot Thank this. -
What really burns you up is that the DM gives you mis-information,high DH and then act like your bothering them if youneed them to get a good phone or load number. Now I paid $187 as the brokerrs cut last week. if He/she has ten trucks then they are getting near $2000/wk. Shouldn't they be checking load numbers, phone numbers, load/unload times and address of locations? Hmmm maybe I'm just in a dream world.
HwyPilot Thanks this. -
been there done that. I was paying $1250 a month "off harvest", and its bumps to $1400 during harvest. Thanks God thats over! I have seen lease trailers on truckpaper for $1000 monthly, out of Chicago I believe.
If your buddy has a few grand to put down on a trailer have him look into Heiman Leasing in Wichita, they don't care about credit for the most part. They are one of few like that, long as you have a down payment, and let them know in advance if you're going to be late with your payment they will work with ya. They have a storage yard behind Ireland Trucks Sales on N. Broadway. Going through them would cut his monthly payment just about in half...
