That’s the problem we had at Sun Coast, going thru clutches like crazy when drivers were shoved into auto-shifts. PacLease was pulling their hair out trying to figure out why. Turns out guys were ‘feathering the accelerator’ at stoplights on hills, instead of holding with the breaks.
Had a drivers meeting on the subject, managers told drivers to ‘hold your position with your brakes not the accelerator’, guys fired back, ‘then give me the last truck I had with a manual’. Corp talking heads told us ‘we can’t, these auto’s are what PacLease is sending us, we don’t have a choice’.
We went and asked PacLease, they told us they are leasing to Sun Coast what is ordered, PacLease would gladly have any transmission in the trucks that Peterbilt offers. Sun Coast corp talking heads were a bunch lying pos’s.

To be a “real trucker” (like me) your stick shift needs to be complimented with a mechanical clutch. You Mary’s with your air assist clutch’s are nothing but wannabes, lol :)

    Just kidding..

Course it is. That's why all these mega's buy autos, they have so much money they just can't spend it. Clever money knows you need a high hp long nose 18 speed to really save money, you're obviously nobody's fool are you. Although, you do write like one! Odd, eh?

That’s the truth, you can’t be a real trucker if you can’t shift

A real trucker is a driver who drives for a company that pays him/her well ( at least 1. dollar per mile today), respects him/her, gives benefits, vacation.
A real trucker is a 100% independent O/O who knows their fixed cost, variable cost , take pride for what he or she does, is disciplined never bends their knees to anyone! he/she can park their truck at anytime when brokers or shipper want to take advantage !! to me , this is a real American Truck Driver. the rest are wannabe!

So unless you drive for an LTL carrier or have your own authority you’re a wannabe.

Years ago if you didn’t dress like the Marlboro Man you weren’t a real trucker. Then you weren’t a real trucker unless you shift. And now this? I’ll never be a real trucker at this rate.
