Did you buy any of those things?
If so, that generates data, the retail store to the distributor to the manufacturer all get the information.

I had an opportunity once to see the “Control Center” for Wally World. You would be surprised at how that place works. Flight control center Houston wishes it was that good.

Bought a couple cases of shotgun shells down at Ben Avery last winter, but they were reloads — other than that, no— guess I did buy a pair of Whites recently, but they’re custom hand made and after that I can’t afford to buy anything but 30 pack of buckskins a month. I’m sure you’re correct, but how do outfits like AB and Target get it so wrong and take the hit that they are taking if they know so much about what folks want— I just read an article about how kids are ditching smart phones and going back to flip phones in droves and Apple, Samsung and the other tech monsters are ####ting their pants over it

Today is a rest day. Tomorrow it'll get official cherry popped.

    BUT

Had to mess with it some. Two sets of lat pull downs, well maybe 3 or 4 sets, and 99.9% of the pain is gone from my back and shoulders.

    The OM is pleased.

Barring the economic chaos of the last few years.
It comes down to Fads and Trends and computer modeling.
Fads move very quickly, are hard to predict and fade away just as fast as they come. Usually by the time a big box retailer gets on the market, the fad has passed in the hot markets. Hopefully there will be some pockets where the top of the wave has not hit and you can off the product in that place, otherwise the stock will be sold at huge discount or sold to close out deep discount stores.
Trends build slowly and tend to last for some time, years. Take the color grey, this has been around for quite awhile. Go into a store selling home decor, you will see lots of grey products. This trend is starting to fade, only took 8 to 10 years.
Computer modeling and analysis plays another big role. Looking back at historical data of product categories and the various sub groups within, models try to predict what would be in demand. That’s why you see spring items in stores in February. Lately these models have been very wrong. The last few years product demand has not matched normal cycles.
