I think you are scratching at an underlying social condition.

My family skipped WWII. Dad's father was conscripted to serve WWI. Other Grandfather was a bit younger and missed both big wars. Uncles and dad served during Korea to Vietnam. Most had support roles, other than Fred who went to Vietnam and came back broken mentally. Military did not want me when I was checking out that option because the recruiters could not check any affirmative action boxes. There was no Pride of Service for my family members.

For me D-day was just something on news real archives and that I needed to remember for the rare quiz that covered WWII. Most History for my schooling ended about the industrial revolution trans-con railroad time, on occasion they would gloss over the civil war and WWI to get to the great depression. Anything newer was potentially too political to teach or was not the priority so they conveniently ran out of time.

WWII and D-day is an important event that should be taught. Very few Vets from D-day are still with us. It will be a challenge to make D-day relevant to the current or future Karens and Kens of this country.

I get that. The road we ride on Wednesday near Foresthill gets gravel in the turns, so a couple of the regulars head up on Tuesday and whip out the brooms and give the corners that need it a sweeping. I have had that duty a few times and makes it nice on the trip in not to worry about graveled turns. It is the trip out that we wick it up and have too much fun

You don't want ground squirrels, they are basically a rat, tree squirrels on the other hand at least they taste good fried.

Daughter would grit her teeth, close her eyes and try to choke the trigger to death— if you don’t go broke buying ammunition, they eventually get it— other half is even a pretty fair marksman

You know if Uncle Tom's still exists or is it a relic from the past.
