I often run west but usually to WA or maybe the Portland area. It's rare I come out here to California anymore but every year I take my wife and daughter out on the truck with me for a long haul from the east TN area. Maybe I can get lucky with some onions or something tomorrow or maybe a shorter hop to the Midwest idk.

I think it’s time to drop my insurance values on equipment. My insurance is $200 higher since increasing them. Paying $920 per mo. That’s too high in this market. Anything’s too high in this market as far as equipment payments are concerned. Glad I don’t have any. Going to need a trailer soon. By the time prices come down, mine will be worthless. So it goes Just need it to last another year or so. Sell it for storage if I have to. $11000 5 years ago. It’s been good. Doesn’t owe me a dime.

Not a bad investment for 5 years. Hopefully they come down after this year.

They have short trips around me paying $2 per mile for hazmat. Lol. Starting to think inexperienced Brokers are worse than the cheap new O/O’s running scared. Taking anything they can. They’re all in it together. Like a whole new Trucking model. If volume drops any more, it’s going to be even worse. July and August don’t look good. June is probably the best till next April or May. That’s what I’m bracing for. Peanut Butter Jelly time. Back to my Crab Legs and shrimp gumbo, it’s almost done. Eating good for now anyways. Just have to cook it yourself. Like everything else. It’s DYI.

I'm surviving on waiting till afternoons to book a load and mostly doing short runs.
Some broker usually gets in a bind towards end of day, either a truck not showing up or waited trying to move it for cheap then willing to pay during close to closing time.
Have to play stupid games just to get a decent rate.
I don't dare go out west or to northeast. I haven't even been tempted, soo many loads flying off the boards for $2 something per mile going to dead zones I can't believe it.

I refuse to run my freightshaker into the ground for $2 a mile!

Welp, I’m still making about the same as a year ago. Stop focusing what a mega can do and you can still make 3 a mile long haul… An o/o is supposed to have more skill than a mega company driver. So step up. In September it will be my two year mark as an independent. Guess what, new truck and trailer making so much I just bought a second new reefer. If this former grunt can do it, anyone can.
