So.. TMC do they just promise the world to their truck drivers and just keep screwing them? my boyfriend is new to the trucking world but seriously they promised him home every weekend...well let me tell you they have failed at that he has been home one weekend since he has been with them since OCT..he was suppose to be home 830am today they told him that last night then today after he gets home they told him the load he has needs to be there today so he takes the load there and the people tell him he cant get unload to saturday morning at 630am i am sooo upset they screwed him out of vday and my bday we had a set vacation before he took this job and they told him he couldnt take unpiad or not...is this really the life of a trucker? cause let me tell you it sucks from my end...and my boyfriend doesnt like getting on people's bad side so he just doesnt say anything and deals with it...im tired of dealing with this crap...so i guess im saying are we just suppose to sit back and watch this happen and say nothing if that is the case its time to start job hunting or do they treat him like this cause he is new and they want to see how much he can take? any advise would be great good or bad tia

YES. (Period) You will never be able to Really OR Totally plan your life around trucking, especially if you think he will actually be home at say... 8:30 am, pm or any "M" ANY DAY! Sorry, I don't want to be mean or discourage a career, but welcome to the world of trucking. This is not a BAD company thing on TMC's part... This is trucking.

OTR was never meant to be a family man/woman's job. However I do sympathize with you.I would also advise in the future for your husband call ahead to his shipper or receiver to get the real truth on loading and unloading details.

I too sympathize. And I didn't really want to be the first to tell you this news. I almost left this thread and let someone who has been a member here longer respond... But after over 20 years of missing special events with my family, VDay, BDays... My Own Wedding, and possibly the conception of my own children (kidding) I felt I had to let you know. I'm just glad my wife understands and supports me. I thought it would be all better once I bought my own truck... That just made it where I had to work and be out even longer to make ends meet... It's just Trucking.

Look I'm not trying to be rude here ........ but yeah that's trucking. No one has screwed your boyfriend.

Home every weekend? Not likely with any trucking company especially one that takes trainees. Actually with only around five months on the job, getting one weekend off so far is pretty good.

From what I can see he's been treated fairly well. Or at least about average.

I'm sorry that you missed Valentine's day and your birthday but those are minor occasions at best. Very few dispatchers (even really good ones) are going to entertain that kind of request. It's hard enough to get drivers home for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

As to your vacation? Well....... yeah it works like that too. The company doesn't care what your plans were before he went to work for them. Truck drivers miss out on a lot of things because of the job.

There are a lot of guys out there who would like to step into his shoes right now and if he (or you) make too much noise about these things, one of them will and, with only five months of experience it's not likely that your b/f will find another job.

Suck it up a little. After a year with the company he stands a fair chance of being able to move on to something better.

Perhaps most importantly, he is running!

Yes this is an OTR driver's life, just be glad the wheels are turning for him to make money.
