Folks, I just saw that the first thread was closed due to unruliness I guess. So I wanted to give you guys an update.

I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I didn't even sign his measly $75 offer. My dignity is worth more than $75.

As for a couple of you who said it wasn't the broker's fault, let's get one thing straight...

The only mistake I made was starting my truck before I got the corrected ratecon. To the guy that says I should have rolled 30 miles through rush hour on I-20 --- you are an ignorant fool. I trusted the broker and rolled (despite my better judgement), arrived 10 minutes early, and still ended up on the short end. So I'm a fool too. How can you in any way blame this crap on me? IDIOT.

You guys want to know what happened today? I show up to pick up a trailer. The broker inverted the address number on the ratecon (dyslexia?) so I went to the wrong place. When that finally got sorted out, I got to the right place (which was a HOUSE) and saw that the trailer number was incorrect also. Again the numbers inverted. And just for schlitz and giggles, I checked the zip code on the ratecon. The last two numbers were inverted.

Then, the customer said that the trailer "had issues", so the load was canceled. So was all that my fault too? Maybe I should I hire a retired FBI agent to go over all my ratecons with a fine tooth comb before I sign them?

I had to cancel a load I had going to Dallas. (I'm in Houston now.) So I told him I was going to charge him $150 for TONU. He said he would "work on it". At least I got everything documented by text. This time, I'm gonna follow up. No TONU provision in the ratecon? NO PROBLEM. I'll sue his arse for breach of contract. The customer too if I have to. All for a measly $150. The nonsense and the charity has to STOP.

Have you really? Or are you just tugging on my short ones? Because if you have, I'm gonna have to PM you. Seriously, enough is enough. And like I stated in the first thread, I need to learn the process so I can be ready for when the schlitz really hits the fan.

Firstly, Id like to point out how absolutely terrible it is to do power only, for numerous reasons. I've worked with all of the major manufacturers, all the customers that they sell to who lease trailers, and even the ones who buy garbage, used, broken down trailers to refurbish. Every. Single. One. of them is a pain to deal with. Trailers routinely not onsite, trailers damaged, flat tires, no trailer lights. And that's from the people who build them. Cant even begin to describe the nightmares trying to pick up used trailers from a lot somewhere.

I would also like to point out that as a broker sitting in an office, i have no way to tell if the trailers my customer asked me to move are all they say they are - good roadworthy working trailers ready to haul freight. They might say all is g2g, but you show up and all of 20 trailers i have assigned have big holes in the side from rail transit. Cant tell you how many times that has happened. Or some rinky-dink lot that looks more like a junk yard.

Sounds to me like your booking dookie trailers from dookie brokers. You should demand a TONU when its do (like this 2nd situation), and those brokers need to go to their customer and get it for you. It $150. I know its principle, but is it really worth the extra head aches?

My advice is to buy your own trailer and forget about power only all together. It will save you time and money and stress. (Coming from someone who did power only for 7-8 years.)

Sounds like a bunch of frustration for little benefit. Unless I’m wrong.. Have you considered buying a trailer and setting up something more stable..

lol, jesus christ. You should absolutely be trying to get, but not expecting to get a TONU out of this guy. I have no idea what their contract looks like, but this whole ###### saga is just one big goat rodeo.

Now, I'll say this much: file this broker under whatever system you have for "Don't use these guys again."

I'll dovetail off of @Short Fuse EOD and @Avrakotos - as I'm sure many of the other O/Os will tell you - but even from a brokerage perspective, power only is *rarely* worth the headache and heartache. There's specific times it makes sense, but those are few and far between. Not reflective on you, but the guys pulling large rig P/O as their only freight are a mixed bag at best. Far better, I should think, to get yourself a trailer and pull that and get familiar with it. You'll provide better service, and you'll not be beholden to someone else's trailer to be able to get loads.

Well the broker did send me a ratecon with the TONU today. He was a nice guy from the get-go. I really didn't have to bother him for it.

I know what you mean about the power only loads. But most of the trailers I pick up are either brand-spanking new or almost. Except for Convoy trailers. That company is a crap show.

The reason I haven't bought a trailer yet is because I have nowhere to park it when I'm home. And I don't want the stress of having to worry about where to put it. There IS one place that is really nice but they want $400 a month for the rig. I will probably have to bite the bullet eventually and just park there. And the other cheaper places are in the seedy areas of Vegas. Hookers, addicts, vagrants, crooks are all hanging around nearby.

But I agree with you. I need to make a decision about a trailer.

Yeah. I'm thinking of going back to flatbed or stick with dry van. Reefers are big headaches in my opinion. To me the money isn't worth it.

Hell yes! I have a watchlist on Ritchie Brothers. You can get a 2016 for $15,000 now. Even the Atros are about $40,000 now straight from the factory. All in due time...
