You clearly missed the point. Don’t feel bad though, you’re not alone.

Too many crazy and or stupid people on the roads already, until they can actually make true autonomous driving vehicles I think we need much stronger penalties. Anytime you make something more accessible or cheaper, the usage goes up and all the problems that go along with it. Here is just one example:
Crash rates jump in wake of marijuana legalization, new studies show

You neglected to mention from the same article "...but a separate study of injured drivers found no increase in crash risk from the drug except when combined with alcohol."

And it went on to say " However, the preliminary results of a separate IIHS study of injured drivers who visited emergency rooms in California, Colorado and Oregon showed that drivers who used marijuana alone were no more likely to be involved in crashes than drivers who hadn’t used the drug. That is consistent with a 2015 study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that found that a positive test for marijuana was not associated with increased risk of being involved in a police-reported crash."

That's quite a lot to omit, or did you just think no one would fact check you? Again, this is debate on changes to the laws. Not about breaking the law. One cannot deny that alcohol plays a historic role in car crashes. Yet consumption is still legal. Vices are a trait of the human race to permit us to display virtue in the face of temptation.

I did not fail to mention anything, I posted the link for all to read. Simple logic would tell you that any increase in drug usage will result in an increase in negative action. History has proven this point beyond any debate. We should not encourage the use of mind altering drugs, we should discourage it. You mention vice and yes consumption is legal and now you suggest we increase the number of legal drugs that you can consume and think it will all work out ok?

That is a nice thought, but many people are not responsible enough to actually follow that simple rule. We all know that people already drive drunk so why should we not expect them to also drive high from Cannabis. If people would be responsible, then yes it would be great to actually allow people to do whatever they wanted as long as it did not interfere with others. Take a look at San Francisco or Portland to see what happens when you give people more freedom to do drugs. It just results in a massive increase in bad things happening. We need to have much harsher, long term consequences for doing drugs, not less.

So what is YOUR solution? I just looked this up, this data is from 2020:
Spending per prisoner varies widely across states, from about $18,000 per prisoner in Mississippi to $135,978 per prisoner in Wyoming in 2020. States spent an average of $45,771 per prisoner for the year.

How how much taxpayer money would you spend for "harsher, long term consequences for doing drugs"? Keep in mind, that the more of this there is, the more YOU pay for it? So how much are YOU willing to spend for other peoples stupidity?

Been legal here in Canada for like 7 years now. Have worked with a ton of folks who smoked it recreationally. Never been a problem and our highways aren't full of stoners crashing into ditches all the time either.

I've never done it, don't plan on it either but weed isn't an issue from what I'm personally seeing.

lol, I am not a policy maker for the US Government but I do know with absolute certainty they waste money like crazy. Personally I would work a deal out with a 3rd world hole in the ground like Haiti and have the worlds largest prison built subcontracted of course to the locals for job creation and running the prison. This would keep cost way down. The US military runs tons and tons of training flights in large aircraft like the b52 so I would use them to haul them to also keep the costs down and then as far as food as medical care they have to work every day to cover that part of the costs. You don't work, you don't eat. No pity for lazy people. Prison is more of a trade school in America, I would make it a very unhappy place that they do not wish to return. I would also go back to a very strong 3 strikes and you get a lifetime pass to live in the the Haiti prison complex.

I see. So if YOU got caught doing 1 MPH over the speed limit in a construction zone in Minnesota, you wouldnt have any problem being sent as a first class passenger via USAF airlines to Haiti until you likely die of whatever diseases you caught down there during your 3-6 month stay? Because the penalty (in MN) is about the same for 2oz of weed as it is for 1MPH over in a construction zone.... Because maybe someone in MN thinks that someone doing 1 over should condemn someone to a 6 month stay in Haiti...

    Just sayin...

Or maybe we can start respecting the constitution and allowing everyone to have their rights. The basic premise of the constitution is that you can do anything you want to do as long as you dont interfere with anyone elses rights...

wow, not sure if we are talking about the same country?. I have never heard of anyone ever going to prison for 1 MPH over the speed limit?. Now if you are talking about someone driving drunk or high that runs into a school bus and hurts some kids then yes, I would ship them off to Haiti.
