Right Of Way Question

Vehicle on the right yields, unless the rules have changed since I went to driving school.

 

Should be one on right.....but 50/50 they will... so plan on letting them go
Stay outta trouble

Person on the right is merging. They must yield to the left.

 

A brother of one of my long time friends has worked as a signage and striping crew for Txdot for 20 years. He says the color of stripe on your left tells you what the predominant flow is. Yellow is major lane. White is merge lane.
Look at a get on ramp and notice were the yellow line ends and white line starts. That is the spot were you can legally start to accelerate from service road speed limit to traffic flow speeds to merge.

 

Please explain. I always thought and was taught that the vehicle on the right has the 'right of way' and the vehicle on the left has to merge. There is a very similar road/ on ramp where I live and there is a yield sign for those on the left to yield to the vehicles coming from the right.

 

Sometimes it depends on the design of the on ramp and/or if there’s signage posted on which ramp is required to yield.

 

Look it is simple.

We drive from the left side of a vehicle.

The right side of a vehicle is the far or blind side.

The way it is seems to be the same every state except when it is marked is as follows.

The vehicle on the left has the right of way, because they can not always have a clear view on the right side of them.

The vehicle on the right yields to the one on the left because they have a clear view of the lane on the left.

The yellow line is not uniform in all the states, nor is signage.

 

What I have always known is if you are merging , weather from the left or the right, then you should be yielding, unless there is signage.
