Going to school at Central soon and I was wondering what their policies are on installing inverters and idling.

u have to pay the shop to install the inverters for liability and insurance purposes also if you idle over 30% they will charge you for the fuel. they also do not provide apus on co trucks

They have some, but not a lot. There's a half dozen places I've delivered to in Portland for home time, Fred Meyer is the most common. You may also deliver in Seattle and deadhead home, although they hate doing that.

I've known people to take on Central, but most of them ran out of money before anything really happened. Central stalling, or their lack of money, I don't know. Too bad the state of Utah turns a blind eye to what they do. You two being in ID, you might have better luck getting the Idaho attorney general involved when you and the lawyers are ready.

They must have changed the contract between the 8 series trucks and the 9s, my friend who has the 8 series said in his contract, they have the right to make you sit for 24 hours. But, unlike you guys, his contract specificed he could take his truck to another company, but he only had 4 days to find one, and they had to co-sign the lease. He knows that's unlikely to happen.

And another round of new hopefulls come.
Eyes bright and full of wanderlust for the road.
Family's looking toward a better life, middle class here we come.
6 short weeks of training, then you too can join the ranks of the elite, the Professional Truck Drivers of America.
The drivers of these big rigs are the lifeblood of America. Moving our economy on 18 wheels.
Come, be a Gypsy of the highway, serve your country and make 35,000 to 50,000 a year.
Or you can make much more as an Owner Operator.
After 4 short months on the road, you can lease to own a brand new Kenworth or Peterbilt. Be your own boss. Or top owner op made 200,000 last year.

Now the other side of the coin.

You sign a 1 year contract to a company.
They look at drivers as being less than dirt. See all the other trainee's coming? You are a number and a seat warmer. They know that most have no plans to stay with them for more than a year. They will test you hard to see if they can get you to run illegal. They hope you will. They can get really good rates for some hot loads. But if you get caught that is ok too, they will let you go so it will not effect their safety rateing.
The lease drivers are making the company the most money.
    They fully own them.
The truck payments get made if the truck is moving or not.
The fuel and maintenance are all paid for by the driver.
You get what?? .85 cpm for this?? And get charged several thousand dollars a month for driving for next to nothing?

Most trucking company's have a break even point on cost per mile at over 1.50 cpm. For the vast majority it is over 1.60 cpm. But you get .85 cpm and a fuel surcharge, so with 3.00 per gal fuel you see about 1.10 cpm for loaded miles?
All the while making payments that no company would think is fair. That brand new 387 Pete, with 0 down would cost about 2000 a month to own. Instead you pay 2000 a month to use it, then if you want to buy it in 4 years you have to pay what they think the fair market value is. Which a 4 year old 387 with 500,000+ miles is only worth about 30k, they will insist it is worth close to 50k.
Oh, and if I remember correctly. I thought the lease was with Interstate Leasing, which is a company fully owned by Jerry. Not really a real company, just a paper company. Also the company that Swift uses.

    For company drivers.
In a year you can move to some other company's. No really good small ones though, they cannot get the insurance on drivers with less than 3 years OTR.
So instead you have the others. Granted, most of these are better run than Central. But the big ones will all have many of the same issues you will see with them.
Fairly low miles, low pay, half maintained equipment, drivers as numbers, low home time etc.

Trucking can be a good gig, but you cannot come into it as just being a job. It uses too much of your time to just be a job.

Panhandle flash and jess-juju Thank this.

Trust me I know the feeling. I'm on the port fleet out of the Fontana terminal & we check in at the port in Long Beach at 8am (most of the time) & might not get loaded until 1pm some days... However we are on salary so its not as big a deal to us, are they at least going to get you detention for being there all day?
