I think I've gotten a touch of agoraphobia as of late. Keep telling myself I'm gonna head to the bar but then I realize there are people at the bar and liquor stores exist.

Outside the gym this morning, a woman had a table set up selling hats and tees while handing out pamphlets about bullying and the prevention of suicide due to bullying. I asked the girl at the desk about being bullied and she said, “EVERYONE will have to deal with bullying.”

Has everyone had to deal with bullies?

When I started school, Nam was going on, and the desegregation was happening in the schools. Rough times. Kids, especially bigger kids, would try to pick on you, especially if you were small. How did we deal with this issue? I reckon that most of us would have a response that started with, “MY FATHER TOLD ME…”

All subjects that a kid could ever deal with would have those words. Gun control? “My dad said. School bully? My dad said. Dating? My dad said. Conduct? My dad said.

My youngest brother is now 40. He doesn’t have that experience, he had two older brothers…but that’s not Dad. He would throw hands if needed, but his son…? He pulled his son out of school when another boy wanted to tug on his wiener.
Did he hit the kid in his mouth???
“No Six, he’s not like that”, said mom.
    Like what?
    “Violent.”
    Defending yourself is violence?
    “Well…”

She hesitated. That means YES. If you are a person who will defend yourself, you are a violent person. Ah! So being defenseless is nonviolent and nonviolent is good. And the cure for bullying is homeschooling. They raised their son to be harmless.

So now my nephew is at that age where he’s looking at girls. Trying to be cute and wearing cologne. Oh boy. The girls are going to decimate him.
