It's not a bad reference, we don't make the laws but we are forced to follow them.

63 in a 55 mph zone is CHP, Sheriff, City, officers discretion, meaning there's a tolerance. There is zero tolerance according to federal Motor Carriers when it comes to drugs, we live and die by it. I agree with NO DRUGS, I also agree that alcohol is a drug. If anyone is over the limit on either it's a disqualifier.

I do not know how someone that "smoked" or did "whatever" 3 months ago and hasn't done so since is a danger to anyone. When according to FMCSA I can drink a beer or any other alcoholic drink 4 hours ago and be ready to drive a big truck or fly a plane. (I was surprised to find that out too)

Not my monkey's, Not my Circus. I only follow the lead clowns rules.

And again yes currently it's law stating we can't but with legalization they can change the laws. Until then it's conversation

I find it hilarious how many times this exact statement came up. The thread is asking if the law should be changed not what the law is. A lot of people like to tout the law as if no one already knows if but in reality laws can and have been changed. Remember slavery or prohibition or abortion, things can change. So maybe a guy could smoke weed on his days off and not when driving or maybe they’ll ban booze 100%.

The precedent, however, is exactly that. The legal framework. As in prohibition. Once it was repealed, should truckers be allowed to drink in their time off? This thread seems to have wandered more off topic than on, and, frankly it's discerning.

It absolutely should be allowed and regulated much the same as alcohol use. When most of the trucking industry decides to educate themselves ( which is asking entirely to much), they will realize how ignorant they truly are. Truckers have been doing drugs since trucking started. It is no different than any other field. People are doing drugs. Simple fact. It is the stigma of use that feeds the feeble mind’s determined to live by grandpa’s beliefs. Grow up and educate yourselves. You Biden lovers can follow the science too. There is proven medical uses for marijuana. Alcohol, not so much. Alcohol is addictive and kills. Personally I haven’t ever known or heard of anyone dying or be addicted to marijuana. Haven’t heard of marijuana tearing up anyone’s liver either. Weird I guess. Do a little research and maybe even live a little before you become the almighty judge. Bunch of sheep!

My wife's company stopped pre-employment and random screenings during COVID... and in the interim, 1/3 of their locations found themselves in a legalized state (MN, IL, MO, and SD... even though Noem and a Sheriff have that one held up in court for now). She's not sure what corporate is going to do as a final answer, and frankly, they aren't either, as they never resumed testing.

Jaguar is more on point than you give him credit for. Sure most do speed in CA. 60 mph in a 55 mph zone is a good reference. Everyone is doing it and choosing to be responsible for the most part. Of course there are those that want to go 75 mph and HIGHER!
There are a lot of people that can be responsible with alcohol and stay out of trouble without putting anyone else in danger including themselves. Same for marijuana users. Ultimately it’s the responsibility of the individual. Moderation and being responsible. This subject altogether is similar to kicking a dead horse. Just find out the truths before jumping on any outdated wagon. LOL

Wait, wait. Does that make it a troll poll?

I'm sorry, I just had to do it.

For aircraft, the rule is "8 hours bottle to throttle." Not 4.

For now, it’s illegal. Eventually, probably not. A DWI is a DWI but outside of that, we live in America where (thank God) there’s still some freedom and liberty. I don’t eat meat, piss in Gatorade bottles, or vote for communists. However, I fully support the rights of others to do stupid stuff as long as it doesn’t impose on my freedom/liberty.
